Best of KOVAN 209 Food Centre · Heartland Hawker Haven with Kampong Spirit

Folks who live near Kovan 209 Market & Food Centre are blessed with a market with fresh produce and a hawker centre with many food stalls. No national champion stalls here but lots of tasty comfort dishes at reasonable prices. Many of the stalls are decades old brands run by veteran hawkers or their second and third generations. I have been to Kovan 209 food centre many times in the past 30 years and these are the stalls that I have tried and like. Nothing mind blowing but the vibes of the place and comforting food here evoke a certain happiness and contentment of home.

There are 3 or 4 wanton mee stalls at 209 Kovan hawker centre - the top two popular stalls are 51 Ming Fa WTM and Yi Shi Jia WTM. Maybe it was my luck - when I am in Kovan, 51 Ming Fa was always closed. So, I only blogged about Yi Shi Jia last year.

No gimmicks, it builds a loyal following with comforting, familiar pleasure, yeah...., like an old habit or affordable addiction.

I was attracted to Yi Shi Jia Wanton Mee by the long queue at the stall and newspaper articles touting its "70-year-old recipe". As I am constantly on the look out for the taste of my childhood wanton mee, I just got to try it. Did I find what I was looking for at Yi Shi Jia?

Hussain Muslim Food @ Kovan 209. You Get a Whole Chicken Wing with their Soto Ayam

Stalking Kovan 209 hawker centre, I spotted a long queue at Hussain Muslim Food every time I am here. They have nasi lemak, soto, gado gado, mee siam, mee rebus, lontong, even nasi ambeng, etc. It will take me a few visits to try everything - they all look delicious. Trying their soto ayam today, I was very impressed 😋 Here's why....
