This famous Muar seafood restaurant in Parit Jawa has no signboard but regulars know it as the "attap house under the big tree 大樹下亞答屋". (Actually, the bill says Kedai Makanan Hai Sing 巴冬厝仔亚参鱼.)
Parit Jawa is a small fishing village about 15 kilometres south of Muar town. Parit Jawa is a popular destination for day trippers from Muar, KL, JB and even Singapore. Many seafood restaurants and stalls have sprung up in Parit Jawa.
This no signboard "attap house under the big tree 大樹下亞答屋" just a few steps from the fishing boats is one of the most popular seafood eating places in Parit Jawa.
This no signboard restaurant is always full of customers during lunch and dinner.
The "attap house under the big tree 大樹下亞答屋" is run by Ah Hui 阿輝 who has over 20 years of experience, with 10 plus years as a caterer in Singapore. Ah Hui's dad also ran a restaurant, so he basically grew up in F & B.
Our party (left to right) Yuki, Tiffany and Tiffany's aunt and her husband who kindly brought us to the "attap house under the big tree 大樹下亞答屋" :D
This time I am not going to say too much about the food except that the seafood was super fresh, the gravies and sauces were able to bring out the ingredients' natural flavours, and owner Chef Ah Hui's execution was superb.
All of us loved everything we ate today.
I am just going to let you see what we ate and let you drool LOL :D
This is Ah Hui's 阿輝's version of Muar signature asam pedas fish 麻坡巴冬阿叁鱼.
The bubbling hot asam pedas had just the right balance of tanginess, savouriness and spiciness.
I am a stingray lover, so we ordered this stingray in sambal.
Chunky stingray.
Ah Hui's fried Ikan Batang.
Ah Hui's signature tofu.
The legendary Dragon's Tongue. Actually, it's just a very tasty fried sole fish :P
"Come to Muar, must eat this" any Muaren will tell you :D
Just look how pearly white and plump those bean sprouts were.
Our total bill came to RM100 for 5 of us which I feel is quite reasonable.
A few steps away from the "attap house under the big tree" is this large food centre with many asam pedas stalls, including the famous Asam Pedas Mak Pon.
I shall be back to Parit Jawa to try out the other restaurants here. At the "attap house under the big tree 大樹下亞答屋" I want to try Ah Hui's famous "3 cup chicken 三杯鸡" which I missed today.
Highly recommended.
