Best Roast Pork Char Siew @ Old Airport Road Food Centre

I said yesterday that I will be back soon at Roast Paradise. Well, so here I am today :-D

Our char siew today (SGD44 per kilo). Well browned outside with slight glint and charred edges. I like it that the charcoal roasted pork loin was chopped in bold large chunks instead of thin slices.

The outside caramelised layer was crisp and had quite robust savoury flavour with slight smokey taste. The inside was tender and still moist. I could still taste a bit of natural porcine flavour which I like and there was also a slight sweetness. Overall, it was savoury sweet, leaning slightly on the savoury side.

Haha we went for another round of char siew ;-D This time, the cut had more fat, so it was juicier, sweeter and more balanced between savoury and sweet.

The accompanying dip was mainly savoury layered with a slight smokey flavour.

Roast Paradise also serves Hakka style noodles which is quite common in Kuala Lumpur but seldom seen in Singapore. (Actually, I don't know where else I could get Hakka noodles in Singapore besides Roast Paradise.)

The noodles were cooked soft al dente and tossed in a layered savoury lard based sauce with minced pork. It was delicious and went very well with the char siew in the bowl.

Roast Paradise is the newest char siew kid on the block. The baby of buddies Kai and Randall who are in their twenties, Roast Paradise stall is barely two months old. After a decade in the events industry, Kai and Randall took the leap of faith to start over as hawkers. They went to apprentice in one of Kuala Lumpur's top roast shops, "Famous Seremban Favourites" for 4 months.

Quick to acknowledge that they are novice budding hawkers, Kai and Randall actively seek out customer feedback humbly and earnestly. Their char siew has already attained a commendable standard - it is delicious and already a stand out in the crowded field. If Kai and Randall continue to improve on their craft as they are doing, the sky is literally the limit for these young hawkers.

    Was it crispy but still with a little bit of stickiness? Because that my favorite!
