Which is the best bak kut teh in Johor? Everyone have their own favourites like Kiang Kee, Sze Hwa, Shoon Huat, Ah Soon, Ah B, Bak Cheng etc.

Though not everyone agrees, if we go by crowd size - the best, or at least the most popular BKT in Johor is Kiang Kee bak kut teh near Kota Tinggi (on the road to Mersing).

Be early, especially on weekends as the place is always overflowing with customers. For me, the most disheartening sight at Kiang Kee is when a coach disgorges its bus load of wide eyed tourists before you managed to find your seat 😱

Eating at Kiang Kee has the kampung feel. It's pretty cool under the attap roof even when it is blistering hot outside.

Ordering is done at the front counter. The menu is over head on the red board.

The boss, Mr Ng often personally mans this station. Tell him your choice of cuts and your table number - the food will be served at your table.

Kiang Kee has been in business for over twenty years. Mr Ng's father-in-law learned the recipe from a friend from Klang, hence there is the Klang DNA in Kiang Kee's bak kut teh.

The bak kut teh in clay pots are finished over charcoal fire before serving.

Kiang Kee's BKT broth is sweet, herbal and savoury with an underlying fresh porcine flavour. (Kiang Kee's broth is sweeter and more herbal than the Klang style but it is not as thick.)

Kiang Kee's pork is very fresh and done expertly. The meat is tender and moist, well infused with herbal sweetness and yet we can still taste the pork's natural sweetness.

My favourite BKT cut is pig's tail for it's combination of skin, fat and meat which gives the best mix of flavours and textures. True to it's Klang BKT DNA, Kiang Kee also has kawan (脚弯 "elbow") and sai kuat 小骨 (trotter).

The feathery light crispy bean curd skin.

Buah-Long-Long-Juice

There is, of course, Chinese black tea to go with your bak kut teh, the traditional way. You can also try this buah long long juice which is really fragrant, sweet sourish and refreshing. (RM4 a small bottle.)

Three of us finished everything, including the soup. Our total bill came to RM80.

There is ample parking at Kiang Kee except on weekends when there can never be enough 😂

The kampung style toilets at the back which some city folks may be unfamiliar with 😆 They are clean inside.

The easiest way to get to Kiang Kee is by car. The road to Kiang Kee is pretty featureless save for some oil palm plantations and nondescript small buildings. Fortunately, there is the WAZE App. I found the WAZE App easy to use and it takes me right up to Kiang Kee's doorstep. Kiang Kee is about 50km from the JB CIQ.

When you see this junction on the way to Kiang Kee, keep heading for Mersing - Kiang Kee is about 11.5km straight ahead from here (do not turn towards Kota Tinggi town or towards Desaru).
