Thanks to buddy Corinne for showing me Vamos Coffee Roastery in Sri Tebrau, JB - it's a most fascinating place 😄 Vamos is no ordinary cafe - that is too mainstream 😄
This is actually Aik Lei's playground - yes, it's a nitro brewery where Aik Lei experiments and creates his nitro brews.
Aik Lei is an electrical engineer by profession. After over a decade in a MNC, he decided to follow his heart and launched Vamos Coffee Roastery in 2014 (in Taman Perling). Now, Aik Lei supplies his beans to cafes in Johor and Singapore.
This year, Aik Lei launched his nitro brewery located in Jalan Serampang (two doors away from the Naughty Nuri outlet). Aik Lei co-develops and supplies nitro brews to cafes in Johor Bahru.
Vamos is actually not very visible from the road. It is behind Kronoz Denim Store and Vito Hair Dressing Salon. Parking is also very limited.
To get to Vamos, walk to the narrow side lane to the right of Kronoz. Vamos is just beyond that grill leading to the backyard. A roasting machine stands guard at the gate.
Stepping into Vamos, it felt more like an alchemist's secret lab than yet another run of the mill cafe.
Set up in the back yard of a converted bungalow, it's actually very cosy here. A great place to chill.
Folks who know their way around JB come in to taste Vamos' nitro brews 😉
What's on the menu?
😄 It depends on what nitro brews Aik Lei is playing with at the time. The only thing you can be certain of is there will always be surprises 😉
We enjoyed several of Aik Lei's current nitro brews. There were guava, beetroot, Costa Rica Arabica, orange, aloe vera and more.
Got fizz. Got kick. So enjoy lo 😄
Of course, there is also good coffee. Vamos roasts all their own Arabica which they supply to cafes in Johor and Singapore. The blend served at this backyard workshop depends on what is Aik Lei playing with at the moment. So, be prepared to be
House made cookies to enjoy with coffee. RM10 for 3 pieces.
Besides his obsession with coffee and nitro brews, Aik Lei is also an avid surfer. So cool, right?
