Jubilant Hainanese Chicken Rice 喜庆海南鸡饭 | 121 Pasir Panjang Rd, stall #01-32 Pasir Panjang Food Centre, S118543 ⏰ 9:30am - 1pm (Sun off) |
As a typical Singaporean, I am always on the lookout for good chicken rice places. I mean chicken rice stalls are everywhere in Singapore, they are generally at least okay to good, but we customers have become very picky and demanding 🤭😬
So when chef Benny Se Teo shared that Jubilant Hainanese Chicken Rice at Pasir Panjang Hawker Centre is very good, I was excited to try it as soon as possible.
And, so here I am 🤭
Jubilant is one of the busiest, if not the busiest stall in Pasir Panjang Hawker Centre now.
I waited 20 minutes for my food before 12 noon.
All these food for SG$4.
This chicken breast landed on my tray faster than I could say what cut I wanted (which is thigh). If you don't specify immediately what cut you want, you get the default, which is breast. (Choosing your preferred part may incur additional charges.)
That's correct lah. If everyone is slow like me, the wait will be much longer for all.
The chicken breast cut into thick strips of meat came slathered with a splash of savoury sweet watery sauce which pooled at the bottom of the plate.
The white breast meat was delightfully moist, soft tender smooth, with no trace of dry roughness at all. I can taste the chicky sweetness which was well complemented by the watery savoury sweet sauce.
Yummy, and I say good news for chicken breast lovers.
The mould of rice looks huge (actually standard bowl). It has a slight shimmer in the midday light.
In the mouth, the whole grains were loose, soft, fluffy (not tender, not nutty), not overly greasy. Tasted gently savoury salty and sweet, flavoursome, with a bit of pandan leaf and garlic aromas. The rice was good.
Digression.
Stranger came and asked to share table. Of course, anyone is welcome to share table. But, I requested to take a picture of her food first 🤭 Ah... It's Ivy's Hainanese mutton soup - I also like but don't have anymore stomach space for it today.
Now, back to normal programming 😄
The taugeh (bean sprouts), I wasn't expecting much as even Tony knows how to blanch taugeh whaaat...
Well, maybe not, not to this level anyway.
These were not those beansprout legends from Ipoh, just ordinary taugeh but they were juicy and crunchy with a natural sweetness even though the roots were still attached.
Wah seh, chicken, rice, taugeh 3-in-1 mouthful. So much pleasure and joy 喜庆 for $4, life is good lah..... even though it may be simple and humble.
Simple savoury sweet soup that tastes of real chicken.
Real grated fresh ginger and scallion scathed with hot oil. Steals any Cantonese Ah Seng's heart...., yeah that's me literally.
Woah... This chili garlic sauce is hot! I warned you.
I couldn't finish the chili sauce. Didn't eat the cucumber. I can't stand cucumber skin 😂
At first sight, I thought the bank security guard forgot his big shotgun 😄
I want to come back with a bigger crew and finish off a whole bird.
But, do come before the office crowd descents.
