Yit Lim Hong Kong Soy Sauce Chicken @ Bendemeer Hawker Centre • Soft Juicy Tasty Birds!

Yit Lim Hong Kong Soy Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle | Bendemeer Market & Food Centre, stall #01-73, Singapore 330029 🚅 5 minutes walk from Boon Keng station ⏰ 6am - 2pm (Sun off)
Yit Lim Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken always has a long queue whenever I am at Bendemeer hawker centre. Buddy Mary said it is one of her favourites. So, after Hwa Heng Beef Noodles, I gave Yit Lim a try 😁

Bendemeer hawker centre is a hyperlocal eating place off the tourist map 👍

Wait time was at least 30 minutes.

I got the drumstick noodles for SGD5 which I felt is good value for today's market. (Half bird $10 / whole bird $20, a steal by today's standards.)

Pretty straightforward. Mound of noodles in sauce with a chopped drumstick and obligatory greens (choy sum). That's all. Okay there's an obligatory soup.

Whack the soya sauce chicken first.

The soft browned skin was silky smooth. The meat was poached to just right doneness, for me. Soft juicy and so smooth it just slides down to the tummy unless we consciously slow down and make an effort to chew and savour its sweet and mildly savoury flavours. If there was Chinese 5 spice or wine, it was hardly discernible.

Beats some famous brands and my own efforts in cooking this dish 😂

Next, the noodles.

The noodles were generic factory type. Light weight (too light) with an airy "hollow" kosong type crunch. Drippy sauce enveloped the strands but tasted mild and somewhat flat savoury sweet. Even with sambal mixed in, the savoury spicy quotient wasn't lifted by much.

I didn't ask, but maybe chef has Hong Kong tastebuds 🤭 oops I said it 😂

The Simpsons gif. Homer is frozen, standing very still, with a blank expression on his face. He slowly slides himself backwards into a bush to disappear and hide.

Unker next to me ordered the same drumstick but with hor fun (rice noodles). The pickled green chili is free one....... 🤭

Enjoyed the soya sauce chicken a lot. One of the smoothest ever at the right succulent juicy tenderness and sweet savoury flavour intensity for me.

Next time, I shall try it with rice or get half / whole bird (if with kaki kaki) . Will also try their prawn dumpling soup.

  3. I like their chicken, but the queue can be pretty crazy. The fishball noodles right behind this stall is pretty good too IMHO—if you got chance to check it out, do let me have your thoughts about it!
