La Familia Italian & Mexican Artisanal Pizzas & More @ Taman Tasek Johor Bahru ☏ +6019 895 5564

La Familia | 61, Jalan Glasiar, Taman Tasek, 80200 Johor Bahru ☏ +6019 895 5564 ⏰ 12 noon to 11pm
Newly opened La Familia serves excellent artisanal pizzas and tortillas - I tried them 👍 They also serve pasta which they also make in-house - I want to try them soon. Judging by their pizzas I am confident that their house made pasta will be nice too.

La Familia is in Taman Tasek, a small residential neighbourhood, just 10 minutes by car from JB CIQ.

Inside, cheerful family friendly colours and decor. La Familia is a Halal restaurant.

The dough is house made from scratch.

Chef Abdulrahman hails from Algeria and is one of the top pizza chefs there, coming in 1st runner up in a Neapolitan pizza making competition in Algiers.

La Familia's wood and gas fired oven can reach 500°C, which can cook a pizza in a sizzling 90 seconds.

My first time here, I ordered the classic pizza Margherita.

The centre of the pizza was relatively thin and soft tender while the thick rim or cornicione with charred spots was light, airy, crisp and chewy to the bite.

The cornicione thick like a rope is my favourite part of a pizza pie.

I like the rich umami savoury flavour of the thick mozzarella cheese with a subtle bit of sweet and tang from the fresh tomato sauce. The olive oil and basil leaves added their perfume-like aromatics and herbie taste.

It's a great pizza!

First time having a panuozzo. Originally from the Italian city of Naples, it is pizza bread filled with stuffing similar to pizza topping (to me it is like a closed pizza of sorts).

It had the same dimpled leopard spots we love to see in our cornicione. It's an indulgent sandwich for all-cornicione lovers.

Mine was filled with meaty bolognese sauce of mozzarella, tomato, tender beef and basil leaves.

The bread was crisp chewy outside, soft moist tender inside. It's the ideal combo of good chewy crisp all-cornicione bread with your favourite (choice of pizza) filling.

We also had tortilla with guacamole, sour cream, and tomato sauce.

The tortilla shell and all the fillings were made in-house from scratch with fresh ingredients.

I've never been to Italy before but spent some time in New York City where I took the opportunity to visit several famous New York City pizzerias. So, I like NYC style pizzas with thick corniciones and thin middles. I look out for such pizzas and feel so happy that we can get it at La Familia in JB at affordable prices 🕺

Next time, whenever I am plan a food trail in JB, I will propose a stop at La Familia for their artisanal pizza, panuozzo, etc. Shall also need to try out their house made pastas.

Cheers!

  3. Usually, you get this mottled appearance when they use a very, very hot oven, so the pizza dough bubbles up then bakes.
