Chidlom 1 Day & Night Foodie Tour Itinerary📍Bangkok • 2026 Update

I've been coming back to Chidlom district in Bangkok at least once a year for decades. Never tire or got bored with it as Chidlom and Bangkok keeps growing and refreshing. There are always new interesting things coming up and not-so-new hidden gems that I discover for myself with every new trip.

Chidlom is also spelt Chit Lom. The name Chidlom ៧ົດລນI means “close to the wind" in Thai. The name was given by Phaya Phakdinoraseth พระยาภักดีนรเศรษฐ, the landowner. Phaya Phakdinoraseth founded schools, hotel and the first bus service in Bangkok before he passed on in 1945.

Today, Chidlom is at the core of Bangkok's tourist belt chock-a-block with upscale shopping, food & beverage, entertainment, and accomodations. It's like the Orchard Road of Singapore or Bukit Bintang of Kuala Lumpur.

We stayed at Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok at Lang Suan Road in Chidlom again.

I appreciate the luxury, comprehensive amenities and warm hospitality at Kimpton Maa-Lai.

Perfect for a restful sleep.

So nice waking up to lush greenery and skyline of Bangkok.

Reported dutifully to Kimpton Maa-Lai's well equipped gym first, warming up to a whole day and night of great eating and drinking ahead 🤭

Took a dip in the infinity pool.

Normally, at other hotels, I would skip the hotel breakfast and go join locals for Thai dishes at hyperlocal places such as backlanes stalls or shops.

But, at Kimpton Maa-Lai, I always start my day in the hotel as the huge irresistible breakfast spread is amazing 😋

There are Thai, Western, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern sections, all with live cooking stations.

So hard to say no 🤭

I am writing a separate, detailed article on my experiences at Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok hotel 👈

After breakfast, we took a slow walk north along Lang Suan Road to Mercury Ville shopping mall.

Mercury Ville is located at BTS Chit Lom station.

Mercury Ville is not a big mall by Bangkok standards but it offers essential conveniences like banking, clinic services, hair and nail salons, as well as premium cafes, and higher end restaurants.

One of them is Savoey at Mercury Ville which just re-opened after major upgrading. Savoey Mercury Ville now offers live seafood, on top of their already extensive traditional Thai cuisine and seafood menu.

(Savoey has over ten outlets. This is another outlet at Terminal 21 👈)

Savoey Seafood is great for families and groups. Ingredients are live or fresh, dishes are expertly cooked, service is impeccable, the environment is spacious, clean, well furnished, comfortable, and prices are competitive with the same level of restaurants.

I have written a detailed article with delectable photos of our scrumptious and sumptuous seafood lunch at the newly re-opened Savoey outlet at Mercury Ville 👈

Savoey Mercury Ville has excellent traditional Thai and contemporary sweets, but we saved our dessert stomach for coffee and cakes at the newly opened Cafe DIOR 🤭😋

DIOR Gold House is a treasure trove of DIOR's famous and highly sought after artistic, classy, top end fashion products.

We love DIOR but were here firstly for Cafe DIOR 🤭

The exquisite cakes and pastries at Cafe DIOR reminds me of famous Italian Chef Paco Torreblanca's philosophy that "Culinary art goes beyond the joy of flavours and becomes art for the eyes. Ephemeral sculptures, born to die in our mouths".

It is inevitable that we will cafe hop when in Bangkok, a leading edge F & B paradise with many dazzlingly beautiful cafe concepts. Cafe DIOR is one stop you have to make time for 👈

In Bangkok, I like using the Skywalk - it's brilliant infrastructure. It is an elevated covered walkway above the traffic and road grime. Shields us from the often blistering tropical heat and from getting wet when it rains. Many of Chidlom and Bangkok's key attractions are accessible by Skywalk. I am so grateful for it, use it a lot when I am in Bangkok.

From Cafe DIOR, our next stop is Big C Supercenter.

For die hard shoppers (which means most of us 🤭), Big C is like a Mecca for food gifts to bring home. It has a huge range of Thai snacks, dried fruits, etc, most beautifully packaged ready to present as gifts. Big C is a super convenient one stop shop to get all your gift shopping done in one place, in one hour (or for as long as you wish 🤣).

Big C is accessible by Skywalk.

From Big C, we walked to Erawan Shrine.

The Skywalk offers unique vantage points for taking pictures of Bangkok from new perspectives.

If Bangkok is the heart of Thailand, Erawan Shrine may be considered the soul of the city by many Bangkokians.

Devotees local and from aboard, never miss a stop for offerings and blessings at Erawan Shrine when they are in Bangkok.

Next to the Erawan Shrine, inside Raysorn Amarin shopping centre is Louis Vuitton Visionary Journeys at LV The Place Bangkok. Here there's LV Cafe and Restaurant by Chef Gaggan Anand. But, we took a rain check as our tummies were 130% full when we got here. We visited the exhibits, instead.

There were elegant, stunning immersive exhibitions showcasing the artistry and innovativeness of LV designs and products. It's an eye popping experience well worth a visit - all you need is time as there is no entrance fee.  We were done and happy in around 30 minutes, but the impressions will last. I am not inclined to such indulgences but after visiting Visionary Journeys, I am sold on LV even though I didn't buy anything (yet) 🤭

From LV Visionary Journeys / Erawan Shrine, our next stop is Menya Itto.

Menya Itto is in Gaysorn Village, yet another upmarket retail and F & B attraction in Chidlom.

If you like Tsukemen style ramen, and you like lobster, then don't hold back. Go straight for Menya Itto's lobster ramen.

The crustacean is a Homard Bleu Breton from Brittany, France. The big lobster is served with super umami Homard bisque and freshly house-made noodles. Mind blowing delicious, especially if you are a umami fan.

Yes, Menya Itto still meticulously, painstaking make their own noodles and soup from scratch using raw ingredients, fresh everyday at the restaurant. No shortcuts like using factory made noodles and soups.

I am writing a separate detailed article on Menya Itto 👈

From Menya Itto, we walked back to Kimpton Maa-Lai hotel.

Across the road from Menya Itto is Central World shopping mall, one of the largest in Bangkok, if not Thailand.

Last port of call for a day & night in Chidlom, the roof top Bar•Yard at Kimpton Maa-Lai.

Front row seats of the stunning Bangkok skyline by night.

Chill out and reflect on what a wonderful day and night it has been at Chidlom. No wonder Bangkok is like a magnet that keeps pulling us back, it's like a second home for many of us.

Back to my room in Kimpton Maa-Lai, welcome back by this breathtaking vista of Bangkok from my window.

Goodnight Bangkok.

(Look out for my coming detailed article on Kimpton Maa-Lai hotel 👈 )

Tomorrow is another amazing day, I shall share with you here in Johor Kaki blog soon.

Meanwhile, thanks for reading, and hopefully we may bump into each other in Chidlom, Bangkok.
