Bucket Roast Chicken & Taiwan Street Food📍Fortune in Your Mouth Stall @ 161 Bukit Merah 有口福 桶仔鸡 ☎️+65 9359 4445

We gathered at Fortune in Your Mouth 有口福 stall at SG Kopitiam coffee shop in 161 Bukit Merah Central. My first time here, I was expecting just Fortune Mouth's famous roast chicken 桶仔鸡 but found out that the little stall has a lot more dishes to offer. It's like a mini restaurant in a coffee shop.

Owner Gilbert is a veteran restauranteur who has several signature dishes up his seasoned sleeves. Roast chicken 桶仔鸡 was just one of them, I found out soon.

The menu is at the stall front - lots of dishes inspired by Taiwanese night markets like lu rou fan, sesame oil chicken, oyster mee sua, chye poh omelette, three cups chicken, etc.

Let's talk about Gilbert's claim to fame first - the Taiwan 桶仔鸡-inspired roast chicken. The bird was grilled and smoked in an Apollo oven with charcoal and stalks of sugar cane. It was delivered smooth and well browned outside.

It's a big free range kampung bird 1.6kg heavy, with long legs and lean body reminding me of the old cartoon character Road Runner. Fresh, chilled, marinaded at 1°C and never frozen.

The best way to enjoy the meaty roasted bird is to rip it apart with our hands (gloves provided) - it's easy as the roast chicken was soft fall-apart-tender.

Even the breast meat was tender moist and tasted savoury sweet smoked.

The skin was the best part to me - it was soft and deeply infused with a savoury sweet smokey flavour.

Gilbert's roast chicken needs pre-booking at least a day ahead ☎️ +65 9359 4445. Price per bird now is SG$38.

Another dish that caught our attention was the stewed pork leg with bee hoon 猪脚米粉.

The skinny bee hoon was soft and slurpy smooth from soaking in the stewing sauce with pork leg, mushroom and spice. The bee hoon was infused with rich savoury flavours.

The stewed pork leg with meat, tendon, fat and skin was all soft like jelly from simmering in soy sauce and a bit of spice.

If the stewed pork leg bee hoon only whetted your appetite, you can order a separate bowl and indulge to your heart's content. The savouriness and Chinese spice flavours were just right mild with a bit of porcine sweetness.

Pepper sauce chicken chop over spaghetti, a Taiwan night market icon.

I like this lo... Makes me feel young again though I can't remember when I first had this in Taiwan.

Soft tender chicken and springy spaghetti smothered in savoury sweet peppery sauce with a runny egg at the side. Happy protein for generations of Taiwanese youth and I still love this. Steal this at Fortune in Your Mouth for SG$6.

Somebody ordered nasi lemak, I don't know why as it seemed a little out of place with the Taiwan theme of the stall.

It must be from Gilbert's past F & B ventures, this rendition stood the tests of the years.

Anyway, I am mentioning it here because I love it 😋

The rice was a little wet but the coconut and lemongrass flavours were on point. The sambal too was loaded with lemongrass.

Tick many nasi lemak boxes but what do I eat it with? 🤔
