Finally, this was my first ever visit to Pulau Bintan (Indonesia) which is so near to Singapore. I am glad to spend an interesting weekend at the huge Bintan Lagoon Resort - the largest on Bintan island.
Approaching the jetty serving Bintan Lagoon Resort. The ferry journey from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal to Bintan Lagoon Ferry Terminal was about 1.5 hours.
After disembarking the ferry, we were excited with anticipation as we walked along the covered link way towards the immigration centre.
The immigration centre opens directly into the resort grounds. Waiting buggies (and also mini buses) from BLR bring the guests to Bintan Lagoon Resort's main lobby. If you do not have heavy luggage, it is very comfortable to walk from the immigration centre to the resort's main lobby which is just a couple of hundred metres away.
The grand entrance to Bintan Lagoon Resort.
The main lobby is spacious and has a very relaxed, laid back feel.
Guests were warmly welcome with dances by beautiful performers in colourful traditional costumes.
My Deluxe Plus room with a king size bed and an inviting day bed for lazy afternoons.
I can see the immigration building from my balcony. It was a mere couple of hundred metres away. Beyond that is the sandy private beach and the turquoise South China Sea.
After dropping our luggage in the room and a quick shower, I was eager to explore the sprawling resort.
The family friendly swimming pools.
Golfer's paradise.
Bintan Lagoon Resort boasts two championship golf courses. Golfers can choose between the sea view course designed by Jack Nicklaus or the woodlands course designed by Ian Baker-Finch.
Besides rooms and suites in the East and West Wings of the main building, BLR also has villas each boasting 3 or 4 bedrooms. It's ideal for large parties and extended family gatherings.
Each villa comes with their own private swimming pool and amenities like BBQ stands, kitchen and so on. Each villa even has their own buggy for use like a "private car" within the sprawling resort.
Bintan Lagoon Resort has several F & B outlets such as the large Kopi O Cafe (where most guests have their 3 main meals buffet style), Miyako Japanese restaurant and Orzo Italian restaurant in the main building.
Spread around the wide, expansive resort, there are several other F & B outlets such as Rice (Beach Front Bar & Dining) as well as cafes at the golf terrace and swimming pool.
Bintan Lagoon Resort is great for special private events like this BBQ party on the sandy beach at BLR. I think after business at BLR's state-of-the-art conference centre, a private beach party is a great way to let the hair down and bring the day's proceedings to a memorable close.
The sumptuous buffet dinner was delicious. Kudos to the staff who set up the party and prepared the food.
This cheerful BBQ team was brilliant. Everyone loved their grilled mini sirloin steaks and lamb rack. I think I had more more than 2 or 3(?) tender flavourful grilled lamb chops (I lost count ;-p ).
See how beautifully done these grilled corn on the cob were?
The guests had a great time of good food, funky music, fun and games with prizes, and the grand finale of fireworks was especially memorable. Spectacular private fireworks - something we cannot have in Singapore.
President Director Moe Ibrahim has even bigger plans for Bintan Lagoon Resort. Big changes and upgrades are in store for BLR to make it the #1 destination on Bintan island.
Last night, Moe Ibrahim also unveiled Bintan Lagoon Resort's bold new BLR logo. The vivid, dazzling colours represent Social, Vibrant and Alive - it's not just the impressive buildings and facilities around the sprawling 300 hectare resort but also the warm and welcoming staff who will make guests feel relaxed, fun and sociable. Moe said that the dedicated and empowered staff are BLR's edge to achieve the resort's vision to be the best on Bintan island.
I wish I have the chance to further explore Bintan for food, sights and it's people in the future. I am sure it too is full of pleasant surprises like the brilliant sparkles of this orange golden bonfire at BLR.
