Last night, we dropped by at the popular Jing Seng restaurant at Taman Desa Tebrau for a simple dinner. Small restaurants like Jing Seng are like Singapore's zi char 煮炒 (cook and fry) stalls which serve restaurant type dishes at affordable prices.

It's full house as usual at Jing Seng during dinner with many families.

More seats outside and customers waiting for tables.

The comprehensive menu is on the wall.

There were only two of us, so we can only try a few dishes this round. We must definitely be back for more, so this is only the first of a few posts on Jing Seng.

姜蒸魚片 RM20.

A thick slab of fresh grouper fish, blanketed with a thick layer of minced ginger and steamed.

The fish steak was tender and sweet with gentle spiciness from the ginger. The fish was very fresh. We love this fish dish and it's very reasonably priced too (seasonal, of course).

Curry Pork Ribs 咖哩排骨 RM11.

Tender meaty pork ribs with slight bouncy bite in a mildly spicy sweet curry. Lots of santan (coconut milk) and potatoes in the thick creamy curry. I couldn't resist drinking up the delicious curry.

Petai stir fried with sambal chili and ikan bilis RM19.

Fresh crunchy stinky beans but the dish was a little too salty for our taste buds, which overpowered the other gentler flavours.

Will order another style of stir fried petai, next time.

腐竹薏米 RM2

Get this home cooked barley with bean curd stick. A wholesome traditional sweet beverage.

We went back to Jing Seng on 2 Dec 2015 to try their famous kampung chicken during lunch. We had this half a bird for RM26.

Today, the lean chicken meat was quite fibrous and chewy. The chicken flavour was slight. The chicken was dressed with a mainly sesame oil blend.

The kampung chicken was served with plain, starchy, boiled white rice. The chili sauce was watery, spicy hot and sour. The ginger dip was mildly spicy and we used it a lot to make the chicken meat taste better.

I saw other customers enjoying fish head curry and others which we must come back for.

Readers suggest we also try Thai style fish 泰式鱼, soups 炖汤, French beans 四季豆, fried fish head 干香炒鱼头 and assam fish.

->> Nice family friendly place for a casual meal with delicious food at reasonable prices. I like the steam fish and curry pork ribs here.
