L32 Handmade Noodles in Geylang Lor 32, is one of my favourite ban mian / mee hoon kueh stall in Singapore since my pre-blogging days.

L32 Kopitiam is located along Geylang Road at the junction with Lorong 32.

There is usually a queue at L32 Kopitiam which has only one food stall - the ban mian stall. Peak hour wait is about 30 minutes.

Good thing is, the food is served at the tables. So when queuing to make your orders at the counter, remember to note your own table number. After making your orders, return to your table and wait comfortably at your seat ;-D

Despite the long queue, Shirley the boss still personally makes the noodles and mee hoon kueh fresh at the stall. Every time I am at the stall, Shirley was making noodles non stop. Shirley is very skilful and turns out neat bundles of fresh noodles quickly and seemingly effortlessly.

Shirley who had been running L32 Ban Mian for 12 years now, said that consistency of standards is very important.

The action at the kitchen in front was equally frenetic, clearing the never ending queue of customers as fast as possible.

Mee hoon kueh soup with minced pork, pork slices, pork balls, chye sim greens, fried ikan bilis and fried shallots. I like it that all the ingredients are very fresh. The fried anchovies in particular were fried to just the right crispness and was not overly salty (a common fault with fried anchovies).

L32 Kopitiam offers mee hoon kway (flour cake), ban mian (flat noodles) or you mian (thin noodles) but I always order mee hoon kway by habit. (Shall try the popular noodles next time ;-D ).

I love the randomness of hand torn mee hoon kueh.

L32 also offer add ons like chicken, fish ball, prawn, sliced fish, fish head and clams etc. So, everyone's bowl of mee hoon kway or ban mian is fully customisable to personal tastes :-D

This is one of the best mee hoon kueh broth that I have tasted anywhere in Singapore or Malaysia.

Nice smooth medium body. Well balanced savoury sweet flavour from pork bones and anchovies. I love to drink this like a hearty tonic broth and there is no concern with MSG as there was very little or none of it at all in the delicious broth.

The egg version comes with a raw egg dropped into the bowl of soupy mee hoon kueh. I like my mee hoon kueh with eggs :-D

We also had a dry version which comes with a separate bowl of soup.

The kueh is tossed in a drippy soy based savoury sweet sauce, which leans on the sweet side.

The freshly hand torn kueh was just the right thickness, just a little thicker than wanton skin. The kueh was smooth and has a nice, very slight springy bite.

We asked for an egg with our dry mee hoon kueh. A raw egg was dropped into the bowl of hot soup, and it turned out perfectly. When the already great tasting soup was stirred with the runny egg yolk and white, it became thicker, creamier and even better with the eggy flavour.

Fresh chye sim is served with the mee hoon kueh here. Would have been perfect for me if it is served old style with sayur manis (mani cai).

The fresh roughly grated chili and garlic have a sharp layered hot sting and sourness. Great accompaniment for the kueh and minced pork / slices.

Recommended for you 👍 L32 Handmade Noodles is one of my favourite places in Singapore to spend my mee hoon kueh dollar.
