Seeing the buzz on social media about Johor Baru's unique murtabak cheese got me all excited to give it a try. So we quickly came to Murtabak Majid Special Cheese No. 1 in Kampung Kurnia. This is the shop which invented this special murtabak.
We sat near to this stand to watch the busy murtabak chefs in action. We can hear the sizzle and smell the grease in the air :-D
The menu looks complicated but it's actually just a choice of beef, lamb or chicken, with or without cheese, big, medium, or small. Simple? ;-p
Look at that stash of golden yellowish dough waiting to be stretched and transformed into the famous murtabak cheese. They are sold out everyday, sometimes at 4:00pm (three hours before closing time).

We opted for a "small" (biasa or normal) cheese chicken murtabak (RM13 and up). It comes surprisingly grease free :-D

The chicken and egg provide a meaty sweetness which balanced the slightly savoury sweet gummy cheese. We enjoyed the meal as we like the contrast of crispy and soft textures as well as the layers of savoury sweet flavours.
The cheese chicken murtabak goes well with the mildly spicy curry. It's provided free flow and self service in a large pot. I like this piping hot soupy flavourful curry.
Murtabak Majid Special Cheese No. 1 is a large informal but comfortable space. They also have ayam golek, ayam penyet, bakso, goreng goreng etc, but we only tried their claim to fame, their murtabak cheese :-D
->> A unique tasty JB twist to the classic murtabak. A tad pricey due to the cheese but it's worth it, and the best place to have it is at the place where it was invented - at Murtabak Majid Special Cheese No. 1.
