Teck Sing is a well loved family oriented restaurant in Taman Sentosa where the food is delicious and reasonably priced. This is the place I go to for paper wrapped herbal chicken and for their "Indonesian style curry prawns".
Three of us kakis met up to catch up at Teck Sing, an old favourite among Johoreans, and not a few Singaporeans. Many people are here for the same reason - catching up over familiar and tasty dishes in a casual, comfortable setting.
The inside is brightly lit and the ambient sounds can be quite loud with non stop banter and laughter during peak hours - it's no place for a romantic date.
Teck Sing's signature herbal paper wrapped chicken 德星药材纸包鸡. We always order this whenever we are here. It's the same with every table 😄 When we tear apart that layers of paper warp, puffs of herbal aromatic steam smelling of dang gui raised to greet us. Usually, the baked chicken with slight scorching outside is soft and sloshy wet with herbal brown sauce. Today, the chicken is slightly stiffer and the herbal sauce a little thicker. Still, it's a nice dish worth ordering. RM35 at 2022 price.
"Indonesian style curry prawns 印尼虾" is the other signature dish at Teck Sing. I didn't really swoon over this when I first tasted it years ago but it gradually grew on me. The good sized prawns are always very fresh but prawns are, well, prawns. What I am sold on is the curry broth. It's very spicy and loaded with spices but not overly creamy. I found myself flooding my plate of white rice with this hot curry.
Teck Sing's curry fish head 咖哩鱼头. The half red snapper fish head was very fresh. The creamy curry was loaded with spices but was just mildly spicy and sweet. Three of us polished off the curry fish head (and the curry prawns) 😄 I won't come here specially for the curry fish head but would certainly order it if I am here with a group.
For sides, we had this Hock Chew style egg plant fried with garlic, minced pork, dried shrimps and a savoury sauce 福州茄子. A tasty side I often order out of habit.
Another familiar tasty staple landing on our table out of habit. Fried Fuyong omelette 芙蓉蛋 with onion, slices of lup cheong (Cantonese wax sausage).
Our total bill with drinks came to RM130 (2016 price).
There are 70 different dishes at Teck Sing. Next time, I shall explore more 😄
👉 A comfortable restaurant I turn to when I don't want to think too hard about where to eat, and is confident that it will be a good meal at reasonable prices - can't go wrong here. I never get tired of their herbal chicken and "Indonesia curry prawns".
When I am not sure what to eat, sometimes I just pop into Teck Sing for their paper wrapped herbal chicken. So far, it has been good. This was my first visit back in 2012 👈 click

We were at Teck Sing till the signboard lights were out and shutters were drawn. Yet, another good experience at the old place 老地方. Good food, efficient service and reasonable pricing.

i went there with hubby yesterday around 3.45pm, wanted to take away 2 packets of chicken and was told that we need to come back 1 hour later. after 1 hr, the lady boss said exactly the same thing to us and when we told her that her staff said the same thing 1 hour before, she said "oh we ran out of chicken and you need to make reservation next time". well, if they dont allow us to take away due to super busy business on sunday, she could have said so in the first place. so disappointed. i have been a regular customer of this restaurant, whenever i go to JB.
