I fell in love with Thai style braised pork leg since my first encounter with it in Hatyai decades ago.

Braised pork leg rice stalls are ubiquitous in Thailand, the same way as chicken rice in Singapore or nasi lemak in Malaysia. Every time I passed by a braised pork leg stall in Thailand, I couldn't help but ogle and salivate at the sight of that heap of voluptuous, soft leg browned with braising sauce.

I have eaten at many pork leg stalls in Thailand, looking for the best one to post on my blog. Well, till now, I`ve not posted yet because I could not find one braised pork leg that is clearly better than the rest. Ironically, I've failed because they are all good, consistently delicious, and always filling and satisfying.

So, please help me by sharing with me your favourite 😄

So, here it is, my blog about Thai style braised pork leg though not of any specific stall or shop - because you basically can't go wrong with braised pork in Thailand.

I am suggesting that when you stumble upon any braised pork leg stall during your Thailand visit, go for it.  If that braised pork leg looks soft, tender, juicy and the braising sauce looks well infused, deep in the fibres - you are likely to be pleased.

Even the lean meat is soft and wet with braising sauce and the pork's own juices. The flavour is mildly porky sweet with a bit of savouriness from the brownish braising sauce.

I like to indulge in some fat and skin for it's extra sweetness.

The braised pork can be eaten with rice or noodles.

Personally, I prefer plain white rice as it's subtle sweetness balances the pork's savoury sweet flavours well.

It costs 50-60 Baht a serving at street side or alley stalls in the tourist belt.

Thai food is always eaten with different condiments from sugar, pickled chili, fish sauce, crushed peanuts, chili padi or little raw garlic. I like to eat each mouthful of braised pork with a crunchy pop of raw garlic 😱 The ones in Thailand are not too pungent or spicy, so it doesn't interfere with the pork's natural flavours by too much.

👍The standard of Thai braised pork leg is so consistently high, I am still hunting for the best one that stands out. If you are in Thailand, you are bound to stumble upon braised pork leg stalls. Go ahead and try it - seriously, I haven't come across a bad one yet. I will keep looking and write a special blog about the best one. Any suggestions? 😋
