Kueh Stall at Johor Jaya Pasar Malam ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Kueh-Stall-Johor-Jaya-Pasar-Malam

We first stumbled upon this little van selling traditional kueh at the Johor Jaya pasar malam (night market) last year - it caught our attention because it had the longest queue of all the kueh stalls here.

The first time we spotted this van, it was very early in the evening (no, it was more like late afternoon). I decided to walk on forward to snap pictures and then come back to buy some kueh to try. When we turned back an hour later, the van was gone (everything was sold out) even before sunset.

The kueh van sets up stall at the Tuesday Johor Jaya pasar malam at around 4:00pm. Regular customers quickly descend on the stall and soon most of the popular items like yam cake are gone.

The system is simple.

When you are here, grab some plastic bags and choose your kueh.

Be fast. You cannot afford to be shy.

Join the queue and pay the boss.

That's it.

By 5:00pm, most of the kueh will be gone and before 6:00pm, the stall will pack up and the van will drive off. At this time, some of the other pasar malam stalls are just setting up shop 😂

Why is this kueh van/ stall so popular?

From those kueh that I have tasted from this stall, they are generous with ingredients and they are fresh. Flavours are mild and well balanced - nothing is too sweet even the ondeh ondeh, and nothing is too salty or too greasy even the fried carrot cake. Everything I tasted from this stall - ondeh ondeh, fried carrot cake, soon kueh, and koo chai kueh, I like everything.

And, they are very competitively priced too - each piece is about RM0.60.

5:15pm, nearly time to pack up.

I need your help.

I asked the young boy at the stall what is the name of the stall and where they operate.

He mentioned something that sounded like 陈旺糕点 - my Mandarin is poor, I think I didn't get the first word correct. Can you help me, please?

I just found out from the boss that the stall is called Sin Dong Fang 新東方.

The boy also mentioned a list of pasar malams they operate in. I couldn't catch it all 😂😂😂 Can you help me, if you know?
