Update 18 Nov 2019. For fans of Tanjong Pagar (Ali Nachia) Nasi Briyani who may be wondering where their favourite lunch spot has gone to - they are now at Pin Xiang Eatery at Hoe Chiang Road. They moved here in Nov 2019 after the coffee shop they were at in Tanjong Pagar Plaza changed owners.
Hoe Chiang Road off Tanjong Pagar Road is just a short 10 minutes walk from Ali Nachia Nasi Briyani's old stall at Tanjong Pagar Plaza.
Ali Nachia stall is all the way inside Pin Xiang Eatery coffee shop. There was no signboard when we were there today.
I indulged in a mutton set with extra lamb added. Price came to S$15. There's achar, dalcha (curry vegetable), and raita along with a mound of rice which hid the large pieces of lamb below. Yes, it was exactly the same as that at the old place in Tanjong Pagar Plaza.
The basmati rice was light, moist, not overly greasy and just mildly flavoured with gentle, just right tasting spices. Aroma was also slight. Makcik reminded me that I can ask for more rice, if I need.
It's the lamb that won me over.
The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender, juicy with mild gamey and infused spice flavours. Delicious.
Each nasi briyani set is given a small bowl of this achar which I like a lot - crunchy with sweet spicy flavours. (Disclaimer: This is the container, not the small bowl 😄 )

2017 Archive. Buddy Victor suggested Ali Nachia Briyani Dam stall at Tanjong Pagar Plaza for our meet up. Victor has been a fan of this briyani stall since it was operating at Tanjong Pagar Railway Station.

For decades, Ali Nachia Briyani Dam stall had been operating at the railway station at Tanjong Pagar and was known simply as The Tanjong Pagar Nasi Briyani.
Ali Nachia Briyani Dam stall moved to here in Tanjong Pagar Plaza after the historic railway station ceased operations in 2011.
Ali Nachia Briyani Dam is a stall inside Dingxin Mei Shi Coffee Shop on level 2 at Tanjong Pagar Plaza. It's at the inside far right end, hidden by pillars and the drinks stall.
Ali Latif have been in F & B for over 4 decades. He was a caterer before starting his popular nasi briyani stall at the railway station.
We had 3 sets served in shiny army style steel trays - Victor and I each had mutton briyani, and Charlotte had chicken briyani. The briyani all costs S$7 a set which I felt is very reasonable.
(Fish briyani is available on Fridays.)
The yellow, orange and white mound of basmati rice buries the piece of mutton underneath.
At Ali Nachia, the nasi briyani is cooked (Hyderabadi) dum style which means the rice and meat are cooked together in a sealed pot. After cooking, they are kept warm separately and are brought back together when serving. Dum style cooking allows the meat's natural flavours to infuse the rice.
The spices were very mild, the long basmati rice were light, tender, fluffy, had just the right moistness and very little grease. It is a tasty rice which we can eat guilt free.
The meaty piece of mutton was quite generous - just slightly smaller than the flat of my palm.
The (Australian sheep) mutton with bone (I got the rib) was tender and juicy inside. The flavour of the spices were mild and the lamb's natural gaminess was relatively pronounced which I enjoy. In fact, I like this lamb very much.
Raita and achar add some crunch and mild zesty sourish zing to the meaty, spicy dish.
👉 I like Ali Nachia Briyani Dam mainly for the rich gamey tender mutton and the feathery light fluffy rice. The spiciness and aroma level is on the mild side and doesn't really bite or leave a deep impression. If I am around Tanjong Pagar and crave for nasi briyani, I will eat at Ali Nachia Briyani Dam.
