Corrine, my coffee kaki jio (Singaporean & Malaysian way of saying invite) me for drinks at DCAFF Bar in Taman Molek in JB.
As usual, I set my WAZE navigation app, followed the map and trusty voice to my destination. It was a rainy Friday evening.
When WAZE told me that I've arrived at my destination, I couldn't see DCAFF anywhere. Then, Corrine messaged me "We are inside My Liberica!". DCAFF is inside My Liberica cafe... duh.
DCAFF Bar is actually a pop up opened only on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 9pm to 1am in the popular My Liberica cafe.
I had assumed that DCAFF meant decaffeinated coffee but I was wrong. DCAFF is named after Dexter, the talented mixologist who served us his magical cocktail and mocktail creations which include elements of Liberica coffee.
Dexter, the man behind DCAFF is an anak Johor. He has worked as a mixologist in Taipei and now shuttles between KL and JB, his hometown.
There are 2 parts in DCAFF's menu - on the left are classic cocktails and mocktails given a Liberica coffee twist by Dexter. On the right are Dexter's unique creations using Liberica beans, cascara (dried coffee bean skin), leaves, and flowers (blossoms).
As I am kiasi (Singaporean way of saying someone is being overly cautious or cowardly), I primed Dexter that I cannot take much alcohol ๐ So, he started me off gently with this sangria. It's a zesty blend of red wine, pineapple juice, lime juice, house made coffee liqueur, and grapefruit soda.
It's a slippery slope.
I am not so kiasi after a little coaxing with the sangria.
Next, the Cascara with Bourbon whiskey, lemon juice, house made cascara syrup, Angustora bitter, and egg white.
Love it ๐
In between mixing cocktails and sharing his infectious passion with customers perched at the bar, Dexter was busy making ingredients for his creations. Here he was making cascara syrup.
Dexter had a hard time containing his amusement when old unker said he wanted a Baileys for old time sake.
I am happy ๐ I mean hics...... .
Jasmine also had a Baileys woh.... .
Unker Tony is such a bad influence ๐
DCAFF Bar only has 2 dishes on the menu - Chicken Yakitori and Mexican Chicken Kebab. I highly recommend both as they are delicious, the yakitori is savoury sweet and the Mexican kebab is savoury sweet peppery spicy. The large chunks of chicken in both dishes were fresh, tender and juicy. Generous portions, very good value at RM18+ per serving.
Recommended for you ๐ End your weekend nights in Johor Bahru on a high note with Dexter and his magic cocktails at DCAFF Bar in My Liberica cafe.
