Bumped into buddy CK three months ago and he shared with me about the popular pasembur food truck in Mount Austin in Johor Bahru. I finally got to try it today 😄
The white Passemmbour Rojak truck is stationed near the intersection of Jalan Mutiara Emas Utama and Jalan Mutiara Emas 3. It is diagonally across from the McDonald's at Austin Height.
The Passemmbour Rojak truck is operated by Dinesh and his father who hail from Penang.
I had the basic RM6 serving. For RM7, I can get some yellow noodles thrown in but I declined. I really wanted sotong in it but today, they don't have sotong 😂
In Penang, this dish is called pasembur, in Singapore it is Indian rojak and in Malaysia it is sometimes call Mamak rojak.
It's finely julienned maung kuang (jicama), cucumber, boiled potato, fried tofu cubes, some fried crisp, some spongy fried dough, a hard boiled egg etc all smothered in a warm thick reddish sauce. Passemmbour Rojak Food Truck is a relatively simple set up, so the only "meat" available is sotong (squid) and there are no crabs, prawns, etc.
Information for you 👌 It is a mix of crunchy, crispy and soft spongy textures. The taste is mainly sweet from the sauce and ingredients with a bit of underlying spiciness from chili and nuttiness from crushed peanuts in the sauce. Good as a snack when you are in the area.
Excellent pasembur (and chendol) we had at Hj Shariff in Seremban 👈 click
