If you come to 216 Bedok hawker centre during lunch, you will not notice this popular stall because it is sold out and done for the day before 11am 😄 Come before 10am and you will not miss this stall as it is one of the those with the longest queues at this hawker centre.

As I wanted to try out as many stalls as possible at 216 Bedok, I just ordered the basic $2 mee hoon kueh. Okay I added an egg for another 50 cents.

The freshly hand torn kueh was under a steamy clear soup garnished with fried white bait and chopped scallion. There was a single generic fish ball. I added some chopped chili pepper.

That's all.

The steamy clear pork soup was clean tasting with nice natural porcine sweetness. The fried white bait and chopped scallion added their flavours to the soup. The chopped chili I added gave the soup a mild spicy bite and taste.

The kueh had just the right thickness, irregularly shaped as they were hand torn. Very smooth so it was difficult to pick up with chopsticks. In the mouth, the tender kueh had a subtle spring to the bite. Clean tasting, subtly sweet, overlaid with flavour from the pork soup clinging to the kueh.

The fish ball is generic, factory supplied but they taste okay.

The egg was nearly cooked through as I took a while to take photos. It turned out to be a blessing as otherwise, the raw egg would change the texture and delicate taste profile of the clear pork soup.

The best mee hoon kueh $2 can buy and hard to beat at any price.
