Wedang @ Golden Mile Food Centre • Mee Rebus & Tauhu Goreng

We were at Golden Mile Food Centre at 4pm looking for something to tide us over till dinner later.

Stall name: Wedang

Address: Stall #B1-19, Golden Mile Food Centre, 505 Beach Road, Singapore

Nearest MRT: 5 minutes walk from Lavender station

Hours: 12:00 noon - 8:00pm (Sun & Mon off)

Seeing that Wedang was open and there was no queue at this odd hour, it's the natural choice for the pre-dinner snack we needed.

Three of us, we shared a mee rebus and tauhu goreng. Total came to $8. We also had grass jelly and vadai 🦐 😬

The mee rebus was a winner. The soul of the dish, the sauce was thick and loaded with spice flavours. We could taste a bit of mutton flavour and smell which I like (actually more than a bit). If you like mutton, this is your mee rebus.

They don't give sambal for mee rebus here. I don't need that as I don't want to mess up the mutton flavour of the sauce. Green chili is my favourite thing to eat with mee rebus 😋

Then, the tauhu goreng. It's not very photogenic, but neither was the mee rebus 😬 These food were not made for social media.

The brick of freshly fried tofu was nice. Soft tender inside with the outside lightly browned.

Most of all, I was blown away by the peanut sauce. It was thick and heavy. Savoury, nutty, sweet with subtle heat and a distinct toastiness which I love. The sauce had a smooth creamy body which I believe was from candlenut.

I like Wedang's mutton taste mee rebus, and their tauhu goreng with creamy nutty toasty sauce is my favourite in Singapore now.

I must come back for their soto, gado gado and satay soon.
