Buddy Don jio-ed me to try the prawn mee at 210 Hougang, just 5 minutes walk from Kovan MRT station.
First time here, I ordered the soup version with yellow noodles, prawn and pork ribs. It does have the looks and DNA of the prawn mee stall in Sengkang which Don recommended me earlier, and the stall at 443 Ang Mo Kio which closed a couple of years ago.
Buddy had the dry version. (He let me try a bit and it was good as the flavourful sambal tasted freshly made 👍 )
The prawns and pork ribs were nicely arranged in buddy's bowl. So much pride in their craft.
Enough dry prawn mee envy, and back to my own bowl of soup noodles 🤭
The golden brown prawn soup had medium body and depth of prawny umami savoury flavours from prawn, pork, fried shallot, lard, etc.
It also had onion and sugar sweetness that very slightly edged over the savoury flavours.
The soft tender noodles were well blanched and drained, so they were clean tasting and carried the soup's savoury sweet flavours well.
The medium size prawns were de-shelled except for the head. I like it this way as I can eat the crunchy meat without wetting my fingers which I need to keep dry for taking photos. Yeah...., I take photos throughout my meals 😬
The heads still stored that intense prawny umami which I always enjoyed chewing out of, like chewing sweet juices out of a stalk of sugar cane 🤭
The moist tender meat and a little fat came off the bone with light tugs with the teeth. Slight porcine sweetness overlaid with sweet savouriness from the soup. I like it.
Very similar to the Sengkang and Ang Mo Kio (closed) big prawn noodles though I didn't ask the young hawkers about their relationship.
I like the soup version I tried today. Will definitely be back for the dry version (already arranged with kaki 🤭 😀). Will update here after trying the dry version.
