Yang's Epok Epok Singapore

So we finished a heavy lunch at Haig Road hawker centre. Kaki kaki suggested going to the basement of KINEX Mall for epok epok and kopi.

Woah... Actually, I've never been to the basement of KINEX before. Good food, and cheap and good kopi. Found a new, good comfortable air con place to hide out in this heat wave 🫢

Anyway, I didn't take any photos of the nice robust, full body Robusta kopi. Forgot. Wasn't expecting coffee to be any good at around $1.50 a cup 😬

We were at Yang's Epok Epok for.... what else....?

Of course for Yang's famous epok epok...

... and, I realised that their pisang goreng were excellent too.

We had the curry potato and sardine filling.

The skin or crust was well fried, nicely browned though the skin was just a tad thick and doughy plus a touch dry. I personally prefer epok epok crust to be thinner and slightly oil saturated but I guess that's not how the more health conscious population like it nowadays.

But, the curried potato filling was excellent. Well spiced, moist, nicely balanced spicy, sweet, savoury and rich with spice taste and aroma. The cubed potatoes were melty soft and well infused with spice flavours.

My favourite was the sardine filling. It was a blend of flaky fish meat, onion, spices and chili pepper.

Tasted savoury, sweet, spicy hot.

The thin crisp golden sheath wraps the soft tender about-to-melt banana flesh which tasted sweet tangy.

I love pisang goreng that has a layered sweet tangy taste and smell.

Yang's fritters are produced in a central kitchen and fried on-site at the respective brand outlets. We were at the KINEX Mall outlet.

The epok epok and banana fritter cost SG$1 each.
