Ming Jii Chee Cheong Fun in Taman Johor Jaya has a steady following of local folks. It is a comfort rice noodle dish with options for sauces and eaten with a variety of small bite size sides.
Ming Jii serves Kampar style of chee cheong fun from the mining town of Kampar 金宝 near Ipoh in Perak state.
Ming Jii's interior has bare bones decor but it was clean and cool even though it was not air conditioned. Cool is important as there was a heat wave this Mar-Apr 2026.
The bite size sides were laid out like items in yong tau foo places. RM2 a piece, pick whatever catches your fancy with tongs provided. Yeah.... just like at yong tau foo places.
There were choices of deep fried and steamed items.
Fried pig skin stewed in curry and fried long beans.
There were six ways to eat chee cheong fun.
I chose curry sauce and only blanched / steamed sides. Very health conscious nowadays 😁🕺
The rice noodles were relatively thick but soft tender. Feels, tastes and smells of rice 饭香, naturally sweet and comforting.
Always enjoyed it, never tire of it even when trying to cut down on eating carbs nowadays lah... 😅
The curry sauce was thick heavy but sweet, savoury, lightly spiced. Coated and flavoured the rice noodles well.
The spongy fried pork skin and soft crunchy long beans added flavour and texture to the chee cheong fun.
Actually, this is enough for me along with a coffee for a simple, comforting breakfast. Maybe throw in a couple of soft boiled egg at the side for protein and I am happy, ready for the world already.
For the sides, I just chose items for the vitamins and a bit of flavour.
They were vegetables filled with surimi (fish paste). The surimi was quite firm, not much flavour, needs sauce to elevate their taste. The fresh vegetables helped with their natural flavours.
Doesn't blow minds but I will be back because I enjoy the comfort and feeling of calm and peace that comes with contentment appreciating such humble tasty dishes at my own time.
Comes to the rescue during those "don't know what to eat times" when I am bored with "mind blowing" stuff.

More things to eat in Johor Jaya
There used to be another Kampar chee cheong fun shop in Johor Jaya. They made their chee cheong fun fresh at the shop but sadly they have closed.
Another place in JB that serves Kampar chee cheong fun is at G Cheong Fun in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah (I realised that actually, it has been renamed Ming Jii and the outlet in Johor Jaya is their branch)
