We were just done with the delicious bak chor mee at Blk 71, Seng Poh Road coffee shop - the same one where the famous Loo's Hainanese Curry Rice is located. Then, foodie buddies ordered these - I was delighted 😄 Actually, it is a serious crime to eat at block 71 but skip the curry rice 😂

As buddy Alvin said, Loo's Hainanese Curry Rice really needs no introduction - the 70 plus year old brand founded in 1946 is one of the most famous in Singapore, and the best Hainanese curry rice in many people's books. "The pride of Tiong Bahru" Alvin declared. I love it too 😋

Eating Hainanese curry rice with friends in a crowded coffee shop is an authentic Singapore experience, visitors should not miss.

You know, there is something strangely appealing in messy,  mass cooking, sloshy untidy splatters with curries and dark sauces like Hainanese curry rice (and Penang nasi kandar). Those curry splashes speak intimately to something primeval in us 😂 A kind of unabashed me-ness, take me as I am-ness and proud of it.

This was our second lunch of the day. We all already had a large, kiasu serving of bak chor mee before this.

Jason's favourite Stewed Cabbage is gently sweet savoury with a subtle crunch.

Mark's favourite Curry Prawns has "ganja" - joke lah, of course. The mild sweet tangy spicy curry brings out the natural sweetness of the big fresh prawns. The pineapple adds a bit of zest to the dish.

Fried Pork Chop wrapped with bread crumbs served in a savoury sweet tangy brown sauce with tomatoes - the quintessential Hainanese curry rice dish and perennial best seller.

Lor Bak or Braised Pork Belly is another signature dish of Hainanese Curry Rice. Must have fat and skin, if not, not counted hor... 😜

Curry Sotong (squid), my favourite Hainanese curry rice (and nasi kandar dish - styles different, needless to say).

Curry Chicken. Very good rendition but I always go for the potatoes than the meat 😂

(4-Stars out of 5) Everyone has their favourites. I love everything, especially the curried ones. Even though it is mass cooking, at Loo's Hainanese Curry Rice, the ingredients are fresh, well cleaned and expertly cooked so they retain their natural flavours. The soya based dark sauces and fiery looking curries are fresh, have robust well balanced flavours. The sweet spicy tangy curry have loads of spices, coconut milk and lots of lemongrass in it. The curry flavour and aroma are superb. The soya based sauces and curries blend together very well, if you mix them together banjir (flood) like nasi kandar style. Service is fast, friendly and the plating is quite nice despite the crushing lunch time crowd.

If you are a visitor to Singapore, do check out our Hainanese curry rice - it's our best answer to Penang's nasi kandar 😄 Come eat with us.

I unknowingly snapped this while putting my handphone back in my pocket. Anyway, it shows the aftermath of our second lunch of the day. Yummaey! Buay paiseh (not shy).

If Hainanese curry rice definitely did not come from Hainan in China, where did it come from then? 👈  click
