Restoran Chin Chin 晶晶云吞面 is a popular wanton mee shop near the prominent MPJBT building in Skudai, serving customers since 1988. It's 30 minutes drive north of JB, away from the tourist belt.

Restoran Chin Chin first caught my eye when I was at MPJBT building. I was getting my haircut from my regular barber after paying my bills.

I noticed that there was a constant stream of customers at the wanton mee shop next door. I tried Chin Chin wanton noodles once and have since become one of its regular customers.

Chin Chin's house made wanton noodle is the more slender kind. It feels softer than the noodles at other top wanton mee shops. It is almost like an eggy kind of mee sua (Hokkien for rice thread). Yet it still has that soft al dente bite and crunchiness characteristic of good wanton noodles.

The noodles are complemented by a sauce that has lard and sesame fragrance and that is slightly spicy.

Chin Chin actually supply their egg noodles to other wanton mee stalls such as the popular Ah B wanton mee in Tampoi.

I especially like Chin Chin's popular wanton noodles with chicken claws and black mushrooms.

The chicken claws are well prepared. They are deep fried and then braised in soy sauce based braising stock. They are braised till even the bones are soft. I liked it so much that I ate the jelly soft skin and bones completely.

The noodles are bathed in the braising stock made with chicken claws, black mushrooms and soy sauce. It is tasty and complements the slender, soft, crunchy and eggy noodles very well.

The accompanying chicken soup is clear and tasty. The generous amount of chye sim (green vegetables) in the soup gives it a refreshing green leafy flavour.

The wantons have generous minced pork fillings. The fragrance of fresh pork and sesame is released with every bite of the wanton.
Whenever I am in the MPJBT area I will have an encore of Chin Chin's wanton mee.

👍 One of JB's favourite traditional wanton noodles with a signature gentle spring to the bite. The soft crunch of the eggy slender noodles can be addictive. If you are a wanton mee fan, this is a Must Try.

  2. Masai wanton mee? Which one??

I stay near Masai and yet every time I need to eat something edible I have to go all the way to Johor Jaya --- as almost everything Masai and eastward has no taste

But I found a wanton mee stall operated by a guy from Kedah near the Pelangi area okay - just okay, and by JB standard his mee is not expensive

I always order the '3X' size plate (with 3X the noodle, and he only charge me RM7
