As its name G. Cheong Fun Restaurant boldly declares, the main dish in this popular shop is chee cheong fun.
In addition to Kampar (Perak) style chee cheong fun which is hand chopped to look like kway teow, this shop offers a wide range of side dishes that go very well with the chee cheong fun.
The Kampar style chee cheong fun is served with several different sauces.
I especially like the curry sauce. It is a mild curry - slightly sweet and just a little spicy. When tossed and mixed with the kway teow, it makes a delightful fresh and flavourful dish.
The sweet sauce is the shop's special blend. The sauce is sweet but not the sugary kind - indication that it is made from fresh ingredients and not factory supplied which tends to be sugary and salty due to use of preservatives.
The shop offers a wide variety of side dishes to go with the chee cheong fun.
I like the yam cake which is freshly made at the shop. There are chunky bits of yam. It is tender and tasty.
Another of my favourites is the pork skin. This pork skin is deep fried, steamed and then drenched in a mild spicy sauce. When I bite into it, it felt like an edible spongy bubble wrap of flavour. The skin is chewy and seemed to gently bounce back against the teeth. This food is tasty and fun to eat.
