Perling Curry Mee @ MWS in Taman Perling, Johor 美味香

Curry_Mee_Johor

When Johor Bahru locals talk about Perling chicken curry mee, they are referring to the one at 美味香 or MWS, which is an institution in Taman Perling.

美味香 MWS is one of those charming local folklore of “no name street hawker to shop lot” success stories.

Yet success did not get to 美味香 owners’ heads. Service is still earnest, sincere and appreciative of the support of their customers.

For RM5 (2012 price), we got a steaming bowl of curry noodles piled high with large pieces of tender chicken, tau pok (fried bean curd) and huge chunks of potatoes.

The curry was loaded with ground spices yet it was not too spicy hot – just the right balance of curry spice aroma and flavour. The curry was thick with coconut milk yet it was not overwhelmingly lemak – just the grainy ground spices blended into the smooth creamy coconut milk.

The tender chicken, tau pok and soft mushy potatoes were saturated with curry aroma and flavour. They were just simply delicious.

I remember curry chicken used to be like this when I was a child in the 1960s.

This picture was taken just 30 minutes after opening time. This pot of curry ravished by the hungry breakfast crowd was nearing the last bottom ¼ mark.

This curry was essentially home made and old style like those I had when I was a child. The whole experience is understated, unpretentious and it is just good food loaded with genuine stuff and taste - nothing less, nothing superfluous.

This is definitely one of the best curry mee that I have tasted.

There was even free WIFI in MWS while enjoying our curry mee :)

They have a popular lor mee and prawn mee which I must go try soon 😄

  3. Hi Tony, thanks!

    Keep up the good work.

Brought my in-laws to eat at the Star Chef Skudai along with my wife.
All were impressed with the dishes served.

We proceeded to buy the goreng pisang down the street too and it was awesome!
    Thank you once again. :)

  4. Purposely drove all the way to taste this curry. Curry is very good but too thick to go with noodles, maybe it would be better with bread or rice. Thank you for the recommendation, anyway !

  5. Drove all the way to Perling for this curry. Curry is no doubt very very good but too thick to go with noodles, maybe bread or rice would be better. A good recommendation anyway, thank you very much for your good work!

  6. This curry mee is like eating lor mee, sticky & thick gravy but lack of curry fragrance, the chicken meat is soft & tasteless. There are many better curry mee around, why this?
