Ramly Burger Blitz in Johor Bahru, Malaysia - Episode Pertama :)

Last night, seven intrepid souls set out on a Mission Impossible - to try out in one night 10 popular Ramly burger stands in Johor Bahru. Armed with suggestions from fans of WGOIJB, we set off from our assembly point, clutching our precious list of the 10 most mentioned Ramly burger stands in JB.

The patty is sliced into halves and then sprinkled with curry powder and ground spices.

Our first stop was Abon Burger just outside the famed Warong Saga.

Abon's patty was thinner and fried till drier and crispier than most other burger stands. The egg was done just nice - thin and soft.

The rest of the burger was more compressed, reminding me of a club sandwich. I liked Abon's style of  burger though other team members were more inclined to thicker and juicier patties.

Making the paper thin egg wrap around the patty - the mark of a good Ramly burger.

Our second stop was Jai Burger stand near B-Point car wash.

Thicker and juicier patty than Abon's, competently built burger, clearly above average though not quite distinguished. Definitely likable, though I didn't fall madly in love with it at first bite. Perhaps, I got to let it grow on me.

Enche Syawal ran a busy Ramly burger stand in Singapore before and one of his customers took this video of him in action :)

Squeeze a squirt of mayonnaise before folding the egg around the patty.

Our third stop was called Storey Burger because it was just next to Storey car wash off Jalan Storey :) This stall was in a relatively off beat location and was rather quiet, perhaps mainly catering to people washing their cars here at night. But, Storey burger won the most votes from our team members.

Storey burger's patties were thickest and juiciest.

The oozing sauces were tangy, sweet and savoury. The bun too was thick and bouncy.

Squeezing the ketchup bottle with gleeful abundant.

This was one of our member's personal favourite - had been eating this burger regularly for a long time. When we asked the enche what was the name of his stand, he suddenly realised that it didn't have a name! :) So, on the spot, Enche Man decided that it shall be named Man's burger. Quick thinking. The name was spot on. Distinctive and easy to remember, Man's burger.

Man's burger was oozing and dripping crazily with tomato ketchup and mayonnaise.

Same chicken burger after first bite.

The egg was soft and nice. The patty was adequately juicy and the bun was  fluffy enough. Another good, above average Ramly burger.

We over estimated our capacity for burgers and didn't manage to visit all 10 burger stands on the list. We have to continue another night, and also dedicate at least a separate outing just for burger bakars - the emerging rage in town. Now you know what we have to go through to bring you the best of Johor :)

  1. I am sorry but I have say Man's burger is not the best. The best Ramly in JB is definitely at Stulang. Near the traffic light outside the entrance of Eden. Its made by this malay auntie in her 40s or 50s. She's very friendly and smiles alot. Tell her you want Dageng Special.

    You will not regret.

    1. I believe you are talking about Geekey's Burger? Yes, we heard about Geekey's great burgers and did pay them a visit. Unfortunately, the auntie you mentioned was on day off. We shall visit them again as we really want to try this auntie's famous burgers. Oh, they have shifted up the road a little to "Stulang Walk", the same place as Stulang Pisang Goreng now. Thanks for your comments.

    2. yeap! i used to live there and boy was i lucky to have access to wonderful burger anytime i want. at it's peak when it was still mainly family operated (by the mak cik and her late husband), i once had to wait 20 minutes for my egg burger as someone had ordered 40 burgers!

    3. Hmmm stulang burger is definitely not the best..I see the auntie made the burger like cincai only and not very pro..Tried it before and the taste is like regular burger and slighty above pasar malam burger standard, no offence. And the price is expensive too..

      :(

  6. Personally having tried most Ramli burger stalls in JB for the last 30 years, my personal favourite would have to be this fella at Megah Ria nearby to the food court. Stulang would probably ranked a bit lower than this fella.

  7. after this burger blitz i went out with WGOIJB's admin to my personal favourite place. both of us agreed it was better than any of these we had that night. its outside stulang corner or something cafe near the zon traffic lights, an old lady used to make it, but now she's in KL and the daughter, husband, and grand daughter run the stall. The husband has added his own touch to the burger, which is his home made black pepper sauce. absolutely delicious.
