Barra Groove Coffee Bistro Bar & Grill in Johor Bahru JK1131
I was invited to visit Barra Groove Coffee Bistro Bar & Grill which opened late in 2014 at Jalan Bukit Meldrum in JB. (So, it's one of the newest bistro bars in Johor Bahru now.)
Stepping into Barra Groove, the large mural, pool table and dart board set the relaxed, groovy mood of the place.
Further inside, there is a good sized bar and comfortable seats. There are several LCD screens and a large projection screen (outside) to watch sports and other entertainment. There is also a small stage inside for live music performances.
Barra Groove is one of the few bistro bars in Johor Bahru that is non smoking inside.
The funky al fresco dining area outside Barra Groove (where patrons can smoke).
Chef Sunny heads the kitchen at Barra Groove. Chef Sunny has nearly 10 years working experience at an Italian restaurant in Melbourne.
Here's the food we sampled during our visit.
Wild Mushroom Soup RM10.90. Made with 3 types of fresh mushrooms, onion, garlic, celery and herbs.
Chicken Caesar Salad RM17.90. Fresh Romaine lettuce, turkey ham, Parmesan cheese and croutons lightly doused with Caesar dressing.
Bruschetta RM14. Chopped Roman tomato, Spanish onion, fresh basil and olive oil on buttered toasted bread.
Baked oysters RM19.90. Large Korean oysters garnished with melted cheese, oregano and Napoli sauce.
Mussels Chili RM22.90. New Zealand shell mussels with garlic and chili.
Chicken burger RM24.90. Pan fried chicken with lettuce, cucumber, tomato, cheese, and mayonnaise between lightly toasted sesame buns.
Grilled chicken chop RM24.90. Boneless leg splashed with brown sauce and served with fries and green salad.
American Hot Pizza RM20.90. Melted mozzarella cheese, pepperoni slices and cut extra hot chili padi on a thin, browned crispy crust.
I like the touch of that extra hot chili padi in the pizza.
Meat Lovers Pizza RM25.90. Mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, salami, chicken, beef sausages, bell peppers and oregano on a house made thin crispy crust.
Barra Groove has a stock of wines, beers and liquor to help us wash all the food down ;-D
Barra Groove also has it's own in house bakery headed by pastry chef Siti.
Here are some of Chef Siti's sweet creations.
Siti makes many different varieties of breads, cakes and pastries including these macaroons, mini fruit tarts and cheesecake.
Barra Groove is in a refurbished half century old corner shop lot just a stone's throw from the JB CIQ. The Causeway is in the background.
I like it that wherever possible, the owners preserved the original elements in the building, like these 1960s style mosaic tiles. My old home used to be lined with mosaic tiles like these. I think they still look nicer than the flooring we have nowadays.
Barra Groove is just beside Grand Jade Hotel and steps away from Grand Bluewave Hotel.
Street side parking is easy in the evening. There is also ample open air paid parking behind Barra Groove throughout the day.
I think Barra Groove is a nice place to chill out.
Disclosure: As this is a media invite, the food is not reviewed.
