We were at Ehhe Art Cafe in Johor Bahru again, one of our favourite places to hang out in JB.
Lots of people have the same idea nowadays. Tasty food, nice drinks, good air conditioned environment, friendly service, near kopitiam prices in an art decor cafe, no wonder people are gathering here.
We shared half a bird of Ehhe's Hainanese chicken rice (RM34). This was the second time I am having this.
No need to say much. Just look at the picture :-D
Smooth yellow skin, tender moist meat, jelly fat - subtle natural chicken flavour complemented by gentle savoury sweet light sauce.
Tender nutty rice, each grain sealed with a micro thin mildly savoury sweet aromatic film.
Sourish spicy hot lime and chili sauce. Mildly spicy ginger dip. Both have a little chicken stock for flavour.
No picture but the clear chicken broth with sliced cabbage was deliciously savoury sweet.
->> One of my top choices for Hainanese chicken rice in Johor Bahru and the most comfortable place in JB to enjoy it :-D
Old school curry chicken and toast :-D
Naturally sweet tender chicken in a mildly savoury sweet spicy curry with large chunks of boiled potatoes.
I've not come across better curry chicken and toast combo in JB or Singapore.
Ehhe's "Tan Hiok Nee Street Chicken Chop".
The thick slab of tender chicken was fried nicely golden brown. It was blanketed with a thick savoury sweet tangy sauce with onions, green peas and cherry tomatoes. I enjoyed the chicken and the sauce, and I wondered, if the fried chicken and sauce were kept separate, perhaps I can feel the crispness a little more. (I took a long time to photograph my food ;-p )
Singapore Chili Crab Spaghetti.
The spaghetti was done soft al dente (we can inform the staff if we like our spaghetti stiffer). The savoury sweet spicy sauce had fine slivers of pulled crab meat which were a little too fine, so the texture was not pronounced and the flavour was masked by the sauce.
->> One of my favourite places to chill in JB. Wide ranging menu with new items added regularly. Still serves one of the best old school kopi in town - I like the Johor style "white coffee" taste and aroma.
