Thank U Mom Korean Baked Chicken (not Fried) in Johor Bahru Bukit Indah 땡큐 맘 치킨 JK1526

I wasn't expecting much from trendy fads and franchise food but the Korean style baked chicken at Thank U Mom just blew my mind. It's one of the best baked chicken that I've tried so far.

Thank U Mom's Korean baked chicken comes in six flavours. There is Original, Chili Sauce, Hot Spicy Sauce, Blackbean Sauce, Honey and Garlic Sauce, and Teriyaki and Garlic Sauce.

Prices range from RM55 to RM61 per bird with bone on. Boneless (deboned) birds cost slightly more.

Whereas, Korean style fried chicken shops are sprouting all over Malaysia, JB and Singapore, Thank U Mom serves Korean style baked chicken (not deep fried).



We were a party of ten so we ordered two birds baked in 4 different flavours. (Customers can have two different flavours for each bird.)



We had Original, Hot Spicy Sauce, Blackbean Sauce, and Honey and Garlic Sauce. All the sauces were nice with well balanced flavours. Don't worry about the "Hot Spicy Sauce", it's really quite mild for most Malaysians and Singaporeans.



To me, it's the texture of Thank U Mom's baked chicken that left the deepest impression. There is a slight crisp on the grain crusted outside. Inside, the flesh is sweet, juicy and tender.



I tried all different flavours. In the end, it doesn't really matter. All the sauces were nice but it was the tenderness, juiciness and sweetness of the flesh that is most memorable.



The fresh chicken is baked from scratch on order, so it takes 20 minutes to cook. Hour long wait is expected during peak hours.

The teens in our group ordered the following dishes. I took just a mouthful each and they tasted pretty good too.



Salad with Cold Spaghetti (RM25). Pasta done soft al dente with greens slathered with vinegar, cheese powder and other sweet/ sour sauces.



Carbonara Pasta with bacon bits (RM29).



Curry Sauce Pasta with Shrimps (RM25).



Tteokbokki with Mozzarella Cheese and spicy sauce (RM23).

I love Thank U Mom's version of this staple Korean rice dish - quite sharp spiciness balanced with cheesy savouriness and sweetness from the spongy chewy rice cakes. Took more than my fair share 😄  Sorry guys and gals 😝



Salad with sweet Yogurt Dressing (RM15).



Thank U Mom is a South Korean franchise with over 150 outlets in Korea. It has only one outlet outside of Korea and it is here in Bukit Indah, Johor Bahru.



Thank U Mom is just across the road from Bukit Indah's AEON Jusco Mall.



Thank U Mom is at the second level.



The interior is simple, clean and comfortable.



There is also an al fresco area on the verandah outside.



The head chef Mr Yu hails from Korea. The owner Mr Cho is also from Korea.



Mr Yu is a Thank U Mom trained chef.

👍 Thank U Mom's juicy, tender, flavourful Korean baked chicken really got me excited. Bukit Indah, Johor Bahru is the only place in the world outside of Korea to try this famous Korean homegrown franchise. Expect long queues.
