After getting our rabbitfish at Mama Bay at Kim Keat Palm wet market, we got this chwee kueh at the attached food centre. I love the soft texture of the chwee kueh which felt like little rice custards.

Stall name: Sims Place Toa Payoh Branch Chwee Kueh

Address: 22 Lor 7 Toa Payoh, stall #01-55, Singapore 310019 (inside Kim Keat Palm Market & Food Centre)

Nearest MRT: 20 minutes walk from Toa Payoh station

Hours: Breakfast to lunch

There was no queue at the stall - the signboard simply says 水粿. This stall is pretty much under the social media radar but was recommended to us by the lady boss of Mama Bay Teochew "fish rice" stall at the wet market.

The chwee kueh were freshly made at the stall - I can see all the chwee kueh making paraphernalia (little cups, trays, steaming tower, etc). Most chwee kueh stalls nowadays have their kueh made at central kitchens and delivered to the stall. (If you stalk hawker centres enough, you will see the deliveries.)

Forty cents each, the chwee kueh came generously smothered with stewed chopped chai poh (preserved radish) and a scoop of chili paste (optional). Four for $1.60, eight for $3.20, buy more no discount 😛

I love the chwee, chwee, soft, creamy, watery, jiggly texture of the relatively large chwee kueh. The stewed chai poh tasted just mildly savoury umami with a bit of underlying sweetness. The preserved radish was soft. They don't use lard (so add or deduct a few points depending on which camp you are in 😂 ). The chili sauce was mildly spicy with a bit of zest.

Humble, comforting, nice, and enough for me.
