Sunrise in Pangkor Island.
We stayed with buddy Christine's family whose village home is perched at the top of a ridge off the main road at Sungai Pinang Kecil village on the eastern shore of Pangkor Island. In the morning, we can hear the call to prayer from Masjid Sungai Pinang Kecil, the chirping of birds, the rustling of leaves shaken by monkeys, and the distant muffled roar of fishing boats going out to sea.
Christine's home is 5 minutes walk to the only main road at Sungai Pinang Kecil village which is lined with shops, eateries, mobile food stalls, Chinese temple, Hindu temple, mosque, etc.
Friendly folks were enjoying their morning coffee, catching up with buddies and the news. They were savouring their coffee with you char kway (Chinese crullers) - an old way of enjoying coffee which I had long forgotten and now relearned.
Lao Er has both soup and curry seafood dishes. Prices range from RM6 to RM25 with options for additional ingredients.
We didn't stop to eat at Lao Er because Christine was taking us on an overview of the area around Sungai Pinang Kecil village.
We didn't want to hold Ms 符 back from closing for the day but no matter what, camera still must eat first 😄 So, we quickly snapped a few pictures.
The four ikan kembong fish were very fresh as expected in Pangkor Island. Its meat was tender, moist and naturally sweet. There was no fishy taste or smell at all.
The moderately thick curry made with pork, chicken and dried anchovy stock was rich with spices and aromatics. It was delicious and tasted mildly savoury, tangy, spicy hot but not lemak.
Two of us, we finished everything except for bones for this last stop of our whole morning Pangkor Sungai Pinang Kecil food trail. So, even though we haven't tried anything from Lao Er's menu, we like eating here 😄
We went back to the coffee shop the next day but it was their rest day 😬 We were also leaving for Ipoh that same day 🤷 So, this is one of the many good reasons why we need to come back to Pangkor Island 😄

There were a few coffee shops here - every one we went to was Hainanese run. This was Kedai Kopi Yee J 育捷茶餐室, one of the busiest on this strip.

Disappointed, we lingered for a while and were stepping out when lady boss surprised by offering to cook a couple of curry fish for us. We were touched by her graciousness and hospitality, as we saw that the pots and stove were already washed, cleaned and packed.
We thanked her and she quickly disappeared into the kitchen. I wandered into the kitchen and asked if I may take a picture while she was cleaning the fish. Lao Er boss 符翠梅 asked the coffee lady boss to join her in the picture 😄
I asked how much to pay her but she declined, saying to pay her later. (The custom in Malaysia is to pay after eating.)

When we reached home, we realised that we haven't paid the lady boss 😬
