La Terre Wine Bar @ 11 Upper Circular Road 🍷 Friendly Port of Call for Wine Novices & Connoisseurs

Down at 11 Upper Circular Road across South Bridge Road north from the touristy riverside restaurants at Boat Quay is a cosy friendly little, unpretentious wine bar known as La Terre.

It's a hidden gem for those who enjoy wines. Novices feel welcome by helpful, sincere sommeliers and connoisseurs enjoy exchanging insights and stories with knowledgeable but approachable experts.

La Terre is run by sommeliers Zachary Tay and Jane Yoon.

Certified Advanced Sommelier Zachary Tay was formerly a Western cuisine chef with Les Amis. A decade ago, Zach put on a sommelier's hat with the intention of becoming a better, more rounded hot food chef. That excursion took Zach to unexpected turns and highs in the world of wines.

In a blind wine tasting test conducted by a South African winery, Zachary was one of the rare, if not the only person in the world who was able to identify all the five French wines from a set of 25 wines.

Last month (Oct), Zachary clinched the first runner up position in the Singapore National Sommelier Competition 2023. His next step is to represent Singapore at the regional level competition.

Certified Sommelier Jane from Korea is a passionate wine lover. Wine enthusiasts will remember her from Winery Tapas Bar @ CHIJMES, Winery Gourmet Bar, and Bar a Vin.

Zachary and Jane want wine to be accessible to all. Hence, La Terre offers 55 different wines by the glass - likely the most extensive in any wine bar in Singapore. To encourage everyone to taste and explore, La Terre even serves wines by half glass.

In conjunction with #EatSpainDrinkSpain 2023 which is held from 15 Oct to 15 Nov, La Terre is offering three wines Roda 1, Roda and Sela under their Rioja Renaissance promotion.

La Terre is offering a flight of these three wines in glasses at S$58++ which is a substantial discount. La Terre is generously extending the promotion to the end of November in support of #EatSpainDrinkSpain 2023.

Bodegas Roda winery was established in 1987 in the Rioja wine region in northern Spain. Bodegas Roda vines are up to over 100 years old and planted in sandstone and clay / limestone.

The first wine from Bodegas Roda was Roda 1 in 1992. We tasted Roda 1 Reserva 2018.

Roda 1 is made with a blend of 90% Tempranillo, 6% Graciano, and 4% Garnacha grapes. Roda 1 smells fruity with hints of spice and flora fragrance. The wine has a round body, tannic and tastes fruity and savoury.

Roda 2 was produced from 1992 to 2001 (later renamed Roda). We tasted Roda Reserva 2019.

Roda smells fresh and fruity with subtle undertones of herbs. Feels fresh on the palate, smooth, full bodied, and tastes tannic.

In 2008, Sela, a wine made with grapes from younger vines joined the Bodegas Roda family. We tasted Sela 2020.

Sela is a
blend of Tempranillo, Graciano and Grenache grapes. Smells of fruit, tastes of liquorice, and spice. The red is tannic and the most savoury in this flight of three.

Leave your mark here at La Terre like these guests from Singapore and around the world.
