Jin Ling Xiao Cheng Town Takes You Back 2000 Years to the Six Dynasties Era 金陵小镇

After dinner at Confucius Temple in Nanjing, we drove to Jin Ling Town nearby at Niu Shou Mountain. The beauty of Jin Ling Town was stunning - we could see its glowing lights from a distance as our bus approached the attraction.

Note: We were here on a starless night. The photos are straight out of the handphone camera unedited.

In the old days, Nanjing was known as Jin Ling 金陵 and was the capital city during the Six Dynasties Era 六朝

The name Six Dynasties is from the six successive dynasties that ruled South China from Jin Ling / Nanjing.

This era lasted for over 350 years from 220AD following the fall of the Han Dynasty. It was a chaotic and unstable era - wars were frequent until China was reunited under the Sui Dynasty in 581AD.

This is a recreation of Jin Ling Town as an entertainment, shopping, dining, retail as well as cultural tourism hub.

The area of Jin Ling Town is 5 square kilometres with 780,000 square meters built up at a total cost of about USD1.4 billion.

The buildings emulate the street scenes and lively commercial life of the Six Dynasty Era.

By the time we got here, most of the shops had already closed for the day. There were fashion (including Han fu 汉服), crafts, books, tea shops, cafes and lots of restaurants.

There are also live music and dance performances though they were over by the time we got here.

This is a popular spot for Han fu 汉服 or Han fashion enthusiasts. Han fu clothing style going back to the Han Dynasty (202 BC) is enjoying a renaissance in China. Together with the beautiful buildings, they make me feel I am walking in an old town of ancient China.

There's a museum of Six Dynasty Era artefacts, art, calligraphy and immersive digital dioramas depicting Jin Ling Town during different seasons.

Jin Ling Town is located on the west side of Niu Shou Mountain (in Nanjing). You can see it as the purplish colour dome at the top right of this photo. Amazing attraction, Niu Shou Temple is located there.

I only had the chance to experience Jin Ling Town at night, so hope to come for the day time visit in the future.

Do include this (and Niu Shou Temple) in your itinerary when you are in Nanjing. You will feel like being in a time tunnel going back 2,000 years.
