After our heavy nasi campur brunch, buddy Mark suggested swinging by Tanglin Halt for Edmond Chicken Rice.
Truth be told, we were not jumping at the idea despite Mark's enthusiasm.
Already, we struggled to finish the nasi campur dishes even though everything was so delicious.
Anyway, Mark drove us here and suggested we order just one plate to share.
An old hawker centre, but I find the design of Tanglin Halt Food Centre attractive, practical and distinctive. Hope the authorities will conserve this little building, while its adjacent blocks had already been demolished.
I joined the queue.
One serving for $5.50. They have deep fried and poached options - I picked poached though fried seemed more popular. (I shall try the fried one next time.)
Rice, chicken, cucumber, soup, chili sauce.
Tried out the rice first. The grains were tender, nutty, discrete, wrapped in a thin film of savoury salty aromatic grease. Neither too oily, nor wet, it's tasty chicken rice though I didn't detect the aroma of lemongrass and pandan.
There's a generous amount of chicken for $5.50. Dribbled with a savoury brown sauce.
The cut was quite boney but the meat was soft, fall-off-the-bone tender, moist wet, and the chicky sweetness was quite discernible - I like it, bones, smooth skin and all.
Tasty, savoury, cloudy soup with scallion and fried garlic.
Savoury spicy hot tangy sauce with aromatics.
You know, chicken rice standards are quite high in Singapore. It is difficult to point out a really bad chicken rice stall - the environment will eliminate them in double quick time. In this saturated field, Edmond would be top of my mind for Halal chicken rice, and I would choose it, if I want to have chicken rice when I am nearby.
They have another outlet at Blk 11 Telok Blangah Cres, #01-110, Singapore 090011
