This morning, we went to Desa Cemerlang in search of 大蝦面 Penang Hokkien prawn mee stall at Anak JB coffee shop.
今天早上，我们到 Desa Cemerlang, Jalan Tanjong 的好运来咖啡店吃火红的大虾面摊卖的槟城虾面。真的好吃。汤头够味。辣椒够辣。是我们最喜欢的槟城虾面其中之一。
大蝦面 stall opened here in Sep 2015 and has made a name for itself among JB foodies for its robust flavours and sambal chili.
While waiting for our order of prawn noodles to be served, I couldn't resist jumping up to take a picture of this pot of sambal chili. I already started to sweat and salivate just by looking at the fiery pulp and seeds under that red chili oil.

One of 大蝦面 stall's signatures is their large prawns. Penang Hokkien prawn mee purists might roll their eyes at it. I too prefer the signature little shrimps of Penang Hokkien prawn mee, these tasty large meaty fresh prawns notwithstanding. I am old fashioned that way 😝
One mouthful of this robust crustacean savoury broth and everything changed. I am so in love with this broth that big prawn, small prawn, authentic or not isn't so important any more.
Swept off our feet by the soup, even this slice of fried fish cake which would normally be considered Penang Hokkien mee apostasy tasted really quite nice 😄
We like the soup version of 大蝦面 stall's prawn mee so much that we quickly ordered a dry version to try.
Even before we dug into the bowl of noodles, this sambal chili was a not so subtle warning of what we were about to taste.
The noodles enveloped in a robustly savoury and spicy sauce will appeal to people who like deeply robust flavours.
We didn't have much chance to speak with 大蝦面 stall holder Mr Fong, who hails from Penang. He was extremely busy as he cooks all his food a la minute. For example, the fish cake slices were fried only when there is an order.
👉 大蝦面 stall is one of my favourite Penang Hokkien prawn mee now as I like their robust flavours.
