19 Apr 2016. On my way to Manila to attend the World Street Food Congress held for the first time in the Philippines, and in fact, the first time overseas since the inaugural WSFC 2013 in Singapore.

We arrived at Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport after a short 3 hour flight on a bright and sunny day.

I remember this junction near the airport well as we always had to stop for the light here :-D The advertisement in the bill board changes regularly.

But, after the junction, it's the same Manila crawl every time :-D

We were staying at Shangri-la Manila in Makati. Old style luxury hotel. Huge room with lots of warm wood colours and panels. (There is another newer Shangri-la located in Bonifacio Global City.)

From my room, I had a nice view of Makati, Manila's buzzing financial district.

Our welcome dinner hosted by Philippines' Department of Tourism was at La Cocina de Tita Moning. We were entertained by traditional dances during the cocktail.

La Cocina de Tita Moning is a fine restaurant set in a beautiful "art deco" house built in 1937 by Dr Alejandro Roces Legarda. Today, the Legarda house is lovingly cared for by Dr Alejandro's grandchildren.

There are several well appointed dining rooms at La Cocina de Tita Moning which are perfect for parties.

My choice of main course this evening was Tita Moning's signature baked lapu-lapu (grouper fish) with olive oil and garlic on a bed of lemon balm jasmine rice risotto set in coriander broth.

The scrumptious dinner with La Cocina de Tita Moning's charming ambiance provided the ideal setting for the speakers, media and hosts Philippines' Department of Tourism to mingle and warm up to the World Street Food Congress the next day.

Group photo after the dinner.

All smiles and all set for the next day's opening of the World Street Food Congress held at Bonifacio Global City.
