Lunch today with Puan Chong and family at #7Beradik - Puan Chong and also buddy Lee KC have been telling me about this popular Malay restaurant at Senai Airport. So glad that I came here for lunch today as the food was really delicious.
#7Beradik is a relatively large eatery spanning 2 shop lots at the commercial centre just outside Senai International Airport. During lunch, it is packed with workers from the airport and factories nearby.
Some of the popular menu items are prominently displayed on the wall.
On the menu, #7Beradik have asam pedas, nasi (rice dishes) and vegetable dishes.
#7Beradik also have mee (noodle dishes) as well as Western cuisine like chicken and lamb chop.
Warm water is Free of Charge at #7Beradik, which is generous as most coffee shops now charge 40 sens and at least one charge 80 sens (yes, that is at a coffee shop in JB, not a restaurant).
There's a nasi kerabu corner.
Encik Azemi (right) has been running this #7Beradik outlet at Senai Airport for 5 years. His mother-in-law founded #7Beradik in 2007, located at Bandar Putra, Kulai. (My next food hunt target ๐ )
Why is this restaurant called 7 siblings? Because the founder has 7 children ๐
Oh..... Mei Mei (second from left) was seriously busy while grownups posed for pictures. Why so busy? Tell you later ๐
First thing I had was #7Beradik's nasi lemak. I was so impressed that I rank it together with Kulai's best i.e. Wak Kentut and Yellow Corner.
The rice though slightly greasy was well infused with coconut taste and aroma, the savoury sweet spicy sambal chili had robust anchovy flavour, and that fried chicken was just WOW.
Slightly crisp with savoury and spice flavours outside, the white inside was tender with natural chicky sweetness. I like this fried chicken more than those at Wak Kentut and Yellow Corner.
The nasi kerabu (a Kelantanese Nyonya dish) was nice - so rich with flavours and textures from the mix of ingredients.
Eaten by tossing all the ingredients together with the rice, that fresh red sambal chili was kick butt spicy hot. The finely julienned vegetables provided crunch and sweetness. The kerisik (fried grated coconut pulp) added a bit of toasty nutty taste. The freshly grilled ayam percik was tender, juicy and well infused with coconut milk and spice flavours. It would be perfect, if the rice was coloured with butterfly pea flower instead of approved food colour.
I was quite blown away by #7Beradik's asam pedas fish head. The stock tasted well balanced savoury spicy with a bit of underlying sweetness. There was no sourness (you know I don't like sour things, if you followed my blog ๐ ). The halved ikan merah fish head was fresh.
If you come to #7Beradik, their asam pedas dishes are a must. Besides ikan merah fish head, tail or whole, they also have stingray (ikan pari) etc.
Another memorable dish was this curry prawn, known as Udang Masak Lemak Cili Api in the menu. The creamy sweet coconut milk with mild flavoursome spices was spiked with sharp fiery hot "fire chili". Shiok!
The good size prawns crunchy, juicy sweet were sourced from Pontian.
Siakap Goreng is a sea bass fried with scales on (similar to the famous dish at Kedai Makan Rahmat). The scales cannot be eaten. The white flesh inside was tender and moist, slightly sweet but had an earthly taste. It was tasty when eaten with the dip made with soy sauce, cut chili padi and chopped raw onion.
I enjoyed their sweet Bandung Cincau. Drank it all even though I generally avoid sweet things nowadays.
Chief taster contemplating the flavours of the keropok.
Seriously helping me with the taste notes, so grown ups can focus on enjoying our food ๐ Thanks ๐๐๐
Recommended for you ๐ Fresh ingredients, nicely executed, served with well balanced quite robust flavours. Lots of choices on the menu, comfortable clean environment, competitive pricing. An excellent pit stop when you are around Senai or catching a flight at the airport.
Remember to endorse your parking ticket (get a #7Beradik chop at the cashier) to get 1 hour of free parking.
