Missed meeting buddies John and Joanne for nearly three years, no thanks to the Covid pandemic. So, we were glad to catch up in Bangkok. John and Joanne were extremely warm and hospitable, bringing us to many interesting places despite their busy schedule. One of the memorable places was this humble street side coffee stall where parked motorcycles double up as tables for the stall. I have never seen anything like this before 😁
The motorcycles actually belong to the owners and workers of the coffee stall. When they come to work in the morning, they park their bikes, strap a table top on the saddle of the bike, pull up some plastic stools, and voila! They are ready for business!
The menu is typical of Thai coffee shops with the full range of hot and ice cold coffee, tea, milk tea, juices, syrups, etc.
Crisp outside, pillowy, buttery, sweet.
If you are going to roam around Yaowarat (Bangkok Chinatown), and want to try some hyperlocal experiences, have breakfast at Tee Yok Coffee. Sit on flimsy plastic stools, your food and drinks awkwardly perched on a board strapped to the saddle of a bike, you can't stretch your legs and you are sheltered from the elements by nothing more than an umbrella. Cars and bikes inch by your table throwing up dust and fumes as they passed.
Truth be told, with the tight whirlwind pace schedule, all I remember was the rush of colours, sounds, and most of the things (drinks, bread) tasted sweet. But, I enjoyed the unique experience a lot, that's why I recommend it to you 😀
