Sin Wan Delight Rojak & Cold Drinks Centre in Miri is a very popular place. The first time I was brought here, I haven't started blogging yet, so I never paid attention to exactly where I was. Holiday just relak mah. Only remembered that the rojak was good.
During my recent second visit more than a decade after the previous one, I was again brought to this rojak place. Different people, different time but the same rojak at Sin Wan Delight. Apparently, this rojak is a must if we leave it to Miri locals 😃
The building looked pretty much the same as I remembered it, except that the signboard is more sun bleached today. Could barely make out the coffee shop name 😅
Two of us shared this rojak. Nothing exotic, most of the items were the same as in Singapore or peninsula Malaysia. There's mang kuang (jicama), cucumber, pineapple, cuttlefish, tau kwa, fried crackers, etc. No tau pok, taugeh, torch ginger flower, jambu, etc 😬
Okay, there's sweet potato - I don't remember seeing this in Singapore versions.
There's chili sauce, brown sauce, and crushed peanut. It's the unique chili sauce and brown sauce that set Miri rojak apart from the rest.
The brown sauce is a blend of umami rich hae ko (prawn paste) with sweet gula apong (palm sugar made from the sap of nipah palm).
The chili sauce is also slightly sweet. I like to mix the sweet chili sauce with the umami savoury sweet brown sauce. It becomes a complex blend of umami savoury, sweet, and spicy. The flavours meld together smoothly and is well balanced. The crushed peanut adds crunch and nutty flavour. Nice.
Scooped up the sauce with the crackers, vegetables, etc. Each with their own flavours and textures. So good!
I scooped up the thick gooey sauces like a jam 😂😋
So far I have not been able to escape Sin Wan Delight Rojak in Miri 😬😋
Eating Sarawak rojak is just one of many interesting to do and try in Miri, Sarawak's second largest city (after Kuching). I will be sharing more from my Miri trip in future posts.
I was in Miri for the annual Miri Country Music Fest. The atmosphere of MCMF 2022 at Eastwood Golf & Country Club was electrifying. If you are a country music fan, you will regret it, if you miss the grand Tenth Anniversary celebrations of MCMF in 2023.
