94 Toa Payoh Prawn Noodle @ Yi Hao Coffee Shop ● Low Profile Neighbourhood Favourite

Passing by the block 94 corner coffee shop after lunch at block 92, I noticed this prawn noodle stall had a long queue. So I marked this stall down for a future visit 😁

Stall name: 94 Toa Payoh Prawn Noodle

Address: Lor 4 Toa Payoh, Block 94, Singapore 310094 (stall inside Yi Hao coffee shop)

Nearest MRT: 5 minutes walk from Braddell station

Hours: 7am - 2pm (Sun off)

So, I am back. I am a simple man with simple needs which are not difficult to meet 🤭 Simple life is best 🤗

A lot of food for $6.

Noodles, prawns, lean pork slices and fish cake slices for $4. Add $2 for the pork ribs.

Okay... taste the soup first. It's not going to blow any minds, but there's definitely crustacean umami in the mildly savoury sweetish, watery, clean tasting soup. It's actually a good complement to the "dry" noodle, I soon found out.

Prawns were shelled 🙏, and fresh. Tender lean pork slices were also fresh. Can't remember much of the fish cake slices but they were okay.

It was easy to coat all the noodle strands with sauce as there was lots of it. It was savoury, spicy, lardy in a well balanced and moderately intense way. I like it but if you prefer your noodles very spicy or lardy, tell uncle what you want. Alternately, sprinkle in chili powder which the stall provides.

The pork ribs were excellent 👍

The meat was soft tender while the cartilage was soft-crunchy. Taste was gently porcine sweet. No bones to pick. I chewed and swallowed up everything happily.

Buddy had the bee hoon soup. She liked the gently savoury soup and fresh pork and prawn.

Not a mind blowing, top of the pops kind of prawn mee but one that I would happily return to join the queue for another taste. I like its well balanced flavours at just the right intensity. Prawn noodle is a comfort dish, isn't it? Uncle cooks each portion carefully which adds slightly to the waiting time.

In the mornings, if you listen carefully you can hear the cacophony of chirping birds from the gathering of bird song lovers just beside the block 94 coffee shop.

So glad that this traditional pastime is still holding its own in Singapore.
