肆源小炒 Humble Little Food Stall in Masai with Lots to Offer

After running an errand in Masai, Johor this morning, we swung over to Mr. Tay's little stall 肆源小炒 for brunch. It's just simple staples with rice but the dishes were nicely done as usual. It's another humble but satisfying meal at 肆源小炒.

I came to Choi Ngiap fish head bee hoon shop 财叶鱼头米粉 at Jalan Ah Siang after seeing buddy Andy's Facebook post. I love simple, old school fish soups 😋

JB People's Favourite Food List. Tip Top Ikan Bakar. Tepian Tebrau

Tip Top Ikan Bakar is probably the most famous BBQ stingray stall in Johor Bahru (yet it took me six years of blogging, one stall at a time before I got here 😂 ). The 30 year old stall certainly lives up to its formidable reputation, especially its killer sambal chili.

鼓浪屿 Gulangyu Island Xiamen • Attractions @ UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site

Any tour to Xiamen must include a visit to 鼓浪屿 Gulangyu (just like any visit to Singapore must include a trip to Sentosa island 😄 ). Like Sentosa and Singapore, Gulangyu island is just a short ferry hop from Xiamen island. Just a tiny 2 Km² island, a visit to Gulangyu is a day trip that involves a lot of walking but it is a truly beautiful and memorable place.

Must Try Food in Xiamen • Sand Worm or Tusun Jelly 土笋冻

It's been described as "Xiamen's Number One Local Snack" 廈門第一風味小吃. Yes, it is exactly what you see in the picture - it's big fat sand worms 星蟲 encased in translucent jello. Love it or loathe it, it is a memorable "Must Try" experience for the adventurous foodie traveller 😂

Old Signboard Beef Noodle King of Chong Qing South. Taipei 老牌牛肉大王

There are many "must try" things to do in Taipei. One is to taste their beef noodles as the Taiwanese love their beef. Another is to eat at back lane food stalls. So, we really enjoyed ourselves at 老牌牛肉大王 or "Old Signboard Beef Noodle King" - a famous back lane beef noodle stall in Taipei.

福州世祖胡椒餅 Fuzhou ShiZu Ancestor Pepper Cake or Bun

One of the Must Try food in Taiwan is Foochow pepper cakes (or buns). One of the most famous is 福州世祖胡椒餅, perhaps because it's flagship stall is at the super prime location, right at the entrance of the popular Raohe Night Market 饒河夜市 in Taipei.
