After lunch in downtown JB today, my JB buddy suggested cakes at Flowers in the Window cafe. Oh my.... this pretty carrot cake was so delicious!

This was my first time inside this unique botanical themed cafe in JB's old downtown. Inside, there were bushy dried and live plants here and there at every corner and suspended overhead on swaying hanging pots.

The space seemed a bit messy but in a whimsical, charming kind of way. The lighting was a little dim on the ground level where we sat (so, please pardon the fuzzy pictures 😂 ).

There is more dining space upstairs. Brighter here and there's slightly more leg room than downstairs.

There is even an alfresco space among the greenery 😄 It's like dining in a garden shed with eclectic furniture salvaged from flea markets.

A hiding place in the garden 😄

Flowers in the Window serves brunch, bread, savoury mains as well as sides and cakes. We just had cakes today.

This carrot cake was studded with organic purple carrot and walnut. The cake was soft and moist. Not overly sugary, it just tasted of gently sweet purple carrot with nutty walnut and hints of cinnamon.

I love this.

This Rose & Pistachio cake had two layers of cake with homemade berries jam in between. The rich, creamy buttercream topping was studded with pistachio and dressed with rose petals.

Fash, Claire and Yumi make all the cakes on site at Flowers in the Window so everything is straight out of the oven fresh.

The ladies make five different cakes everyday.

I am inspired by the enthusiasm of the young ladies. I am confident that with their passion, they will be creating more delicious cakes. May I wish them the best in their culinary journey.

The Americano was average. Crema was thin, body was watery and the coffee tasted sourish bitter.

👉 I've tried only two cakes at Flowers in the Window. I love the cakes I tried and am keen to try more, including their savoury dishes. The botanical themed ambiance is quaint, unique and really quite cool. Nice laid back space for a cake and coffee.

Thanks JB buddy for the treat! 😄

  1. Looks deliciously moist! Did the edible flowers add another flavour component to the cakes or are they mostly for visuals? :)

    1. I didn't detect any flora flavour from the dehydrated petals. I was totally absorbed by the moist and layered sweetness of the carrot cake.

I firmly believe that taste is subjective and so, warmly welcome differing viewpoints :-D But, I disapprove negative comments that are anonymous or hide behind fake identities. I feel that that is unethical in the same way as speaking ill of others behind their backs. I look forward to all your comments :-D Thank you. (Date: 18 Dec 2015)
