✍ 22 Mar 2023. Our simple plan was to catch some hyperlocal breakfast in Silom before hopping on the free boat shuttle from Saphan Tatsin pier to the iconic Iconsiam shopping mall.
We just walked along Chareon Krung Road heading 1 o'clock from the intersection with N Sathon Road (at Saphan Tatsin BTS station). Having done that, to us it is a beautiful plan - hyperlocal eating before modern global brands shopping at Iconsiam (I only look see, look see lah).
I was looking, sniffing as we made our way along busy Chareon Krung Road. Paused at this interesting busy shop selling porridge. There was no signboard as far as I could see (so it is easy to miss).
Then fickle uncle decided to go in and sample one bowl of porridge. Two persons share one bowl, spread the risk calories, what can go wrong, right?
The menu was simple - various combinations of pork congee, raw egg, century egg, pork ball, offal. Prices range from B45 to B80 (2023 price).
Two persons shared one bowl of pork congee with century egg because we wanted to hit as many stalls / shops as possible before crossing the river to Iconsiam.
The first mouthful, and both of us were struck by the none too subtle burnt taste in the porridge. But, very quickly I came to the conclusion that the burnt taste actually made the congee tasted more interesting.
The congee itself was smooth, wasn't too thick and it had the natural sweetness of fresh pork underlying the subtly sweet rice. Love it.
The handmade pork balls were great - they were handmade on the spot, large, the meat and fat mince was so fresh, soft and naturally sweet. Love it ♥️
Together with the chao tah porridge, the slight burnt taste and sweetness in the congee and pork complemented each other perfectly.
We had a couple of these crispy, chewy fried fritters.
So nice lo, especially when eaten together with the congee.
Will definitely be back for this delicious hyperlocal experience.
Continuing along Charoen Krung Road for another 5 minutes, we stumbled upon another awesome foodie hotspot Kha Mu Charoensang Silom ขาหมูเจริญแสงสีลม.
✍ 21 Jan 2016. Come here a few times, now then realised why they are called Jok Prince. It's 王子戏院猪肉粥 the pork porridge stall at Prince cinema.
