Ah Choon Yong Tau Foo📍Taman Melodies Johor Bahru • Famous Pork Balls & Chicken YTF 美乐亚春酿豆腐

✍ 14 Jan 2026. I was in Taman Melodies for an errand, so decided to drop by at Ah Choon Yong Tau Foo. The last time I was here was in 2012, during early days of this Johor Kaki blog.

The shop layout hasn't changed much, if at all. Colourful yong tau foo pieces neatly laid out, cooking station at the side.

Familiar looking yong tau foo pieces. But, at Ah Choon, they are filled with ground chicken meat. (This is the only YTF shop that I know of that uses chicken meat for fillings.)

According to lady boss Mdm Wong 黄, they used to use pork but after the pig virus outbreak, they switched to chicken for YTF and never turned back.

These are chicken meat balls.

Ah Choon Yong Tau Foo gets fresh chicken from the market, ground the meat and make them into paste for filling the yong tau foo pieces as well as make these chicken balls.

RM2.30 per piece of YTF.

I had this kway teow with that amazing fermented soy bean and pork sauce during my last visit.

I promised myself that I will come back for the yong tau foo - so here I am today, more than 13 years later 😛

Look at what they use to make the soup 😯 Like that, win already lo. There were old hens, pork socket bone and pork balls bobbing in the simmering soup.

Mdm Wong 黄 founded the stall with husband Ah Choon. Now, she runs this shop with her elder son. Her younger son runs the outlet at Taman Daya.

I just picked the pieces I liked and requested for a dollop of the fermented soy bean pork sauce. The YTF came with a bowl of soup.

Let's take the soup first.

Oh.. man... What do you expect right...? Real chicken and pork, no nonsensical chemical stuff..

The soup was so clear, light, clean tasting and sweet savoury from natural ingredients. It's a previlege in the world of processed food we live in today.

Now the YTF.

The vegetables were market fresh, full of crunch and moist with juice.

The ground chicken filling was so smooth and spongy tender, subtly sweet. One could be forgiven for thinking that it could be fish even though it was sans the fish sweetness.

The tofu was so fresh. Soft moist, and rich with soy bean taste.

The umami savoury sweet fermented soy bean pork sauce was wonderful with the YTF pieces.

After finishing my YTF, I requested for a pork ball with soup which the boss kindly obliged 🤭 The pork ball is Ah Choon Yong Tau Foo's signature and big draw.

The pork ball was tender firm springy and tasted porcine sweet savoury.

Glad to make this trip back to 美乐亚春酿豆腐 Yong Tau Foo Ah Choon after so long. Really worth coming back to, more often next time.

Who is Tony Johor Kaki?

Pork Ball Noodles at Yong Tau Foo Ah Choon 美乐酿豆腐 in Taman Melodies, Johor Bahru

✍ 2 Sep 2012.
This pork ball noodles is the speciality at Yong Tau Foo Ah Choon 亞春 美乐酿豆腐.

Our RM5 set come with a bowl of smooth and soft snowy white kway teow which was barely visible under the blanket of thick, delicious, slightly sweet, minced pork gravy. The set come with two large pieces of savoury, rosy hued 5-spice pork 五香肉片.

These were accompanied by a bowl of tasty soup and three chunky pieces of Ah Choon's 亞春 famous pork balls.

The homemade pork balls were springy 爽口弹牙 and almost like good fish balls in texture and bite. Only difference was the distinct sweet flavour of fresh pork. Ah Choon's tasty pork balls were neither fatty nor oily.

The boss Ah Choon 亞春 has been selling his famous pork ball noodles and yong tau foo for nearly twenty years. Everything is self made by hand with fresh ingredients, so quality is tops but quantity and variety is not huge.

Take a look at some of the delicious yong tau foo available at Ah Choon's 美乐酿豆腐. I shall be coming back for these at my next visit :)

Oh, I must mention Ah Choon's chili sauce.

Ah Choon's chili sauce may look ordinary but it is stingily hot and tangy in a delightful way. I love it :)

Ah Choon's 亞春 pork ball noodles is definitely a must try.

  3. the pork ball noodles are definitely special, and tasty!, however the same cant be said of the yong tau foo. the pieces are alright, but lacking that X factor that make you feel like grabbing a few more pieces to top up. the soup is disappointing, totally lacking in the Umami department, which to me is very important for a good yong tau foo. in comparison, the place you reviewed in perling had an umami soup, but was lacking when it came to the yong tau foo pieces albeit having a huge variety.

  4. ah- almost forgot. the chilli is spicy, but it does not complement the yong tau foo or the pork balls well. i have seen chilli much better executed at other ytf places.

  6. Good morning Tony Boey
Apart from this old favourite, another chicken stuffed yong taufu, is Mr Fook Hakka Noodles on Jalan Perang, Taman Pelangi. If you eat there and catch the boss in a good mood, he'll serenade you with a Chinese oldie but goodie.
