Eileen's Special Cheesecake in NYC New York

Johor Kaki reader Viviene has been a New Yorker for over 3 decades. Eileen's Special Cheesecake was one of the many places Viviene brought me to during our quick survey of the New York City food scene.



I took a careful note of all of Viviene's suggestions and was back at Eileen's for a closer look today :-D
Needless to say, Viviene was spot on, again. Thanks Viviene ;-D



Inside Eileen's small, unassuming shop in NoLiTa (North of Little Italy), customers can sit at small cafe tables or the ledge to enjoy the aromas from the kitchen and the chef's freshly baked cakes.

The young counter staff was very polite, patient and pleasant.

Eileen has been making her cheesecakes in this little space based on her mum's recipe since 1975.



Eileen's offers these mini cheesecakes so that we can indulge in all the different flavours. Eileen's do not serve cheesecakes in slices.



Eileen's popular strawberry cheesecake.



This colourful cheesecake looked like a child's kaleidoscope and just as fascinating and delightful. It's a cheesecake topped with banana, strawberries, blueberries and cranberries.



I could see the tiny busy kitchen from the cafe area and I spotted Eileen, sleeves rolled up, busy at work with her crew. That's over 40 years of cheesecake making expertise in action.



Eileen was busy with Christmas orders but still indulged me (a random walk in customer) for a photo with her, New York's cheesecake legend :-D

The good ol classic plain cheesecake.



I was alone and so was glad that Eileen's serve these mini cheesecakes which are just nice for one person. USD3.50 each.



The cheesecake was light and soft in texture but rich in flavour. The fluffy cheesecake had a subtle airiness. The gentle cheesy savouriness, sweetness and tartness were all well balanced in one delicious creamy cheesecake.

The buttery crust (made with Graham cracker crumbs) holding the cheesecake together was also light, soft and crumbly.
