Cheesecake is as New York City as apple pie is America.
In any list of New York's best cheesecakes, Junior's Cheesecake will invariably be included. Junior's is a NYC tradition since 1950, now with outlets around the City and an online shop. Many Americans had their first taste of cheesecake with a Junior's cake.
Today, I visited Junior's flagship restaurant in Brooklyn.
Junior's is a family type restaurant with a full diner type menu with popular items like pastrami burgers though it is best known for it's cheesecakes.
I requested for Junior's classic Plain Cheesecake.
The cheesecake was not too dense, lightly savoury sweet and slightly tart. The buttery crust was soft.
Junior's cheesecakes are allowed to sit for 48 hours before serving to achieve the signature taste and texture.
A familiar likable classic though not exquisite.
If you like more than a slice or want to take Junior's Cheesecake home, they have a take out section with many different types of cheesecakes.
Strawberry cheesecake.
An interesting cheesecake. Looked like pineapple, blueberry and cranberry cheesecake.
